... but I'm NEVER dull.

The A6m2 in my Pearl Habor and PTO installations is experiencing a VERY odd affliction ~ when taking off from dry land or carrier, it will not taxi.

No matter how gently the throttle is advanced, the plane proceeds to make a tight clockwise tack and WILL NOT straighten out.

This is a BONE STOCK MDL / AIR file combination. In fact, I copied the stock Zero file from my Emergency backup installation.... no joy.

Oh ~ The plane Flies fine. Just refuses to go straight on the ground !

Suggestions ? Ideas ? Hand Gestures ?

Check the cfg file for engine and prop power, then check contact points
in the brake mapping for R&L brake. I have had a early P-40b and a P-36
that would hang hard to the left and s-canned both. Do you have a working rudder? Where did you get the A/C ? I just checked my stock Zero's in both installs and had no problems.ckissling

...someone has been playing around in the CFG files.

Besides checking the items mentioned in the previous posts, check the 'wheel radius' and 'steer angle' settings in the CFG file:

[contact_points]
//0 Class
//1 Longitudinal Position (feet)
//2 Lateral Position (feet)
//3 Vertical Position (feet)
//4 Impact Damage Threshold (Feet Per Minute)
//5 Brake Map (0=None, 1=Left, 2=Right)
//6 Wheel Radius (feet)
//7 Steer Angle (degrees)
//8 Static Compression (feet) (0 if rigid)
//9 Max/Static Compression Ratio
//10 Damping Ratio (0=Undamped, 1=Critically Damped)
//11 Extension Time (seconds)
//12 Retraction Time (seconds)
//13 Sound Type
//14 Airspeed limit for retraction (KIAS)
//15 Airspeed that gear gets damage at (KIAS)

Reduce the steer angle of the tail wheel, it's rotating all of the way around and steering you backwards. Do it little by little until you can control the A/C. Leave it as high as possible because the AI's rely on this number when turning off the runway. If you reduce it too much they'll have a hard time turning it and then they'll run longer before the aplly 100% braking power.

... Penn, I noted that the tail wheel was set to 180*... reset gradually to 45*, and then the most irritating thing happened... I'm getting repeated CTDS....... I'll mess with it after I climb down off the ceiling.

Oh ~ Mr. eccles, I submit the following image as further proof of my allegation.

Best to all

Okay, I got down off the ceiling.

I'm stumped. :censored:

After triple checking all obvious files, attributes, associations, etc., I can not get my CFS2 Pearl Harbor set to run.

Mission Builder works just fine.

When I attempt to fire off the main program, I get a startup failure that references the msvcrt.dll file.

Anyone ?

Howdy SC;

I don't see how changing the tail wheel rotation could cause a C++ library dll to go south.... Have you installed anything else?

I did find this hint at an action that might bring it back to life though.

Some poorly behaved installers for other applications overwrite newer system files-which are needed by Combat Flight Simulator-with older versions. If this happens, copy the files MSVCRT.DLL and MFC42.DLL from your Combat Flight Simulator 2 CD-ROM's root directory to your Windows\System directory (System32 on NT 4.0.) In some cases you may need to close all of your applications or restart your computer in order to copy these files.This is the best I've found so far.

I agree, Penn ~ however, the only thing I changed other than the [contact] bit in the CFG was part of the DP file for that offending Zero.

I also d/l'd an older AND newer version of MSVCRT.DLL and MFC42.DLL, trying each in turn and rebooting after each change. According to the Micro$oft site, this problem is typically a symptom of a corrupted VB6 DLL. No Joy, however ~ CTDs galore.

Well, at least I have a "Pure" install of CFS2 that I can toss into the frey and begin again...

Thanks, all ~ good thing I love a challenge !
