My son (32) is acutely aware of the upcoming pilot shortage and wants very much to learn to fly. He's dead right, all those retirements will create lots of openings, but he can't afford the training at the present costs.

Looking at what's happened to the price of fuel, maintenance, insurance, etc, over the past few decades......beauracratic harrasment doesn't seem to be so much of an issue. Plain cost is what's really knocking most private flyers out of GA.

Exactly. At least that's my excuse...and the excuse of several of my friends. Call it a cop-out if you want, but when you've got a family and responsibilites, certain dreams need to be shelved (or at least deferred).

That being said, I completely agree with beana51's sentiments. This Administration isn't a fan of GA by any stretch of the imagination.
