I was just surprised to find that my FS9 install is now 120 GBs in size. No idea how it got that large. For comparison, note that a fresh stock install is only 2.76 GBs... so I'm looking at about sixty times the original size.

How large is your install?

I have five FS9 installations......together they come to just over 100 gig of hard drive space. All of my planes have their sounds aliased to a dedicated sound pack folder that sets outside of any of my installs. All of my scenery and mesh files are also outside of any of my installs....nice clean folders set up so that all of my installs can be linked to them.

FS9 - 74.1 GB
FSX - 214 GB
P3D - 17.8 GB

Then of course there is stuff that resides o/s of the sims and Hangared a/c.
It's an obsession.

I try to keep my main flyable FS9 installation as small as possible (around 40GB) - for faster access and loading.
A secondary installation as a backup on an an external HD exceeds 130GB. Loads of AC, addon sceneries, AI etc...

198 gb at present. Plus a complete backup on external disc. This is FS9 only. O/S is on dedicated disc plus backup.

Hi there,

I have three FS9 installations:
- 1957-1962 version with CalClassic and Ian Elliott add-on scenery (61.3 GB)
- Golden Wings 3 version with a.o. Cees Donker add-on scenery (15.2 GB)
- ca. 2003 version with a.o. Ultimate Terrain Europe/Canada/Alaska/USA and RealNZ add-on scenery (56.0 GB)

(complete backup of all three external hard disk following some hard lessons)

Cheers,
Maarten

Guess I shouldn't worry so much...

FS9 is at 21.1 Gb
FSX is at 65.4 Gb

I try to control sizes by moving aircraft (and some scenery) folders to an external HD if and when I feel I don't fly them, thereby leaving the favorite aircraft in the sim.

So there is an additional 150.0 Gb for FS9 and 8.6 Gb for FSX of inactive aircraft, manuals, paint kits, etc. on an external drive.

This does not include the full copies of each sim on other portable drives used as backups in case of a reinstall, etc.

Geez that's scary!........never thought about " how much" before so did a quick check and Whew! 161-Gs !! Just seems to have gotten bigger byte-by-byte!..sort of like my weight and Tim Horton's Donuts..bite-by-bite ! ..and that's only FSX..afraid to look at CFS-2 and FS-9. Should do some trimming but hate to start messing with files and such. My "Zinger' handles everything with ease so best I leave it alone. Is this not a great hobby, or what?
