I am going to start a new Texan after a mistake on my part wiped my 3TB hard drive by mistake after installing XP on this old machine had to sell my laptop due to medical and other bills but will start a new texan but it will be awhile cause i am going for detail not my normal speed demon self will post some pics when i get to the point where it looks like the aircraft I've adjusted to my new meds so I should be able to move right along and get somewhere by weeks end should have a pic of something. Let me know what you think.

Hi Taz,
try a few tweaks to lessen the load on the video card. Remember when this game first came out, video cards were pretty low end. I upgraded to an FX5200 and with diligent tweaking it worked fine!

Try with all the sliders down low in the cfsconfig.exe, then slowly work up the aircraft slider one or two notches and see if the game remains playable.
Remember that strangely CFS3 works best on the highest normal resolution for your monitor, it does not improve if you drop the screen resolution. BUT you might have to drop colour depth this makes a big difference to a strained video card.
On the custom config settings in cfsconfig, turn a lot of things off - reflections, water movement, whatever else you can get away with - g Force blackouts, advisor messages targeting cone etc etc.
Once config is set to low undemanding levels, tweak your video card settings hopefully with proprietary software. Again look for things a few notches below perfect display settings, that reduce load on the video card. If you don't have software with your card you could use Riva Tuner.
Make sure the bios settings for the video card are optimal - largest suitable aperture settings, highest AGP setting if you are still on an AGP card, etc.

Hope this is not trying to tell you how to suck eggs :icon_lol:

There's some performance tweaks in this thread: http://www.com-central.net/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=118

Rolling out a nice training fleet Taz.:salute: It would be very interesting to put together some kind of "flight school" course with missions, etc to teach flying basics as they were taught in WWII using the same types they used. We've already got a Tiger Moth, a PT-19, a P-63 used as a target for gunnery practice, your with your T-6 and now AT-9 on the way that's a pretty good lineup. And I think Clive's got a Miles Master somewhere in progress. Am I forgetting anything?

Bummer, I hope you can get your PC issues sorted. I don't think it's possible to have a jet and a piston engine on the same plane in CFS3, but there are others here who have more knowledge of such things. It would be really cool to see.

... I don't think it's possible to have a jet and a piston engine on the same plane in CFS3...

That's correct. There's only one type of engine can be specified in aircraft.cfg, a limitation common to all versions of FS including FSX. That's why there is no realistic Convair B-36 for any version of FS although many would like one.

TDS-TAZ
October 5th, 2013, 06:29
No "gosd" you haven't missed anything having mapping issues 3 parts won't map so i am reworking them from scratch and i still have the cockpit to do which will be another day or two i am in high gear now cause I want this bird out so I can get on to the other never had a mapping problem like this the part shows unwrap3d but when i go back into 3dmax nothing there just the part on painted pissing is off that is why i'm high speed mode right now it is 3 parts missing with me there might be more cause I the cockpit to map and the landing gears to map could be up 10 parts not mapping

will it is a mess cockpit won't map either so i am thinking about redoing all of it the parts that hold mapping i will keep the ones don't i will trash and rebuild it will start with the cockpit and go forward from there must been away to long.

That's looking VERY good! Great job. We do desperately need a Texan/Harvard...

If I can make one comment from the skinner's point of view, it's generally easier to paint when the cowling is mapped separately from the fuselage, so the cowling textures and fuselage textures don't come into conflict - particularly along the forward fuselage where it's covered by the cowling. Don't know it you've already done that, because if you can't see what you shouldn't see, then it's been done right...

TDS-TAZ
October 27th, 2013, 04:28
I am not a skinner or painter i just do my best with it stopped asking for help long ago with any model
i do cause I end up doing it all anyway not thanks for the input not sure if it was good or bad thanks my friend
in the painting i just do what i can if folks think they can do it there is a very detailed template included with
this model so the real painters can do it justice.

Looking good Taz :jump:.

Is it just my impression, or does the cockpit take up more time than everything else combined? It is the most important part, of course for the immersion factor.

After giving this plane long thought it won't be released anytime soon read a book on the plane and found a lot that will make the plane more interesting and will make the plane worth downloading so with this said i am going for next sunday to give me time to rework somethings on the plane and the rear cockpit not going to tell you anything might upload a pic or two and then I might not to keep you in the dark but then I might.

Hi Taz,

this is an important project and so why not take the pressure off, remove self-imposed deadlines? Just release it when you are happy with it.

Happy New year!

Taz, try running this - it's Managed DirectX, which is what the mos editor is looking for. That's usually what the problem is when it won't go.

Also see the Knowledge Base sticky post on the MOS editor (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?40606-Projected-knowledge-base&p=709741&viewfull=1#post709741). Hope this helps!

already read it did everything it said to do and comes up with file missing in needs directx9 or higher.

i used directx9c from 3dmax9 tried to install the netframe 2.0 said already installed and then i installed the file that in the post above and got that error msg.

it makes me mad cause i wanted a damage profile for this plane.

but thanks guess i need trash windows 7 and go back to XP where it gave me the same error msg.

thanks for the help not sure about this designing planes anymore everything use to work now you put enough work in the plane then you have hours of headaches trying to get the software in the sdk to work just don't know anymore.

What exactly is the error message you're getting? And I know about the frustrations, we all get 'em!

Hi Taz,

I can do the mos file for you if you like, just need the models main_t.dds file from you and I can build it. that would take the pressure off while you try to sort out the mos editor on your machine.

regards Rob.

Taz, get the latest DirectX 9.0c runtime (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35) from Microsoft themselves. The version bundled with Max9 is a bit old whereas the MS download is Win7-compatible

ok after 3 installs of XP and 2 win 7 finally got the Mos editor working had to put both systems up where i can xp or win7 everything works fine now I have to install 3dmax9 and will get back to the cockpit and i have a few things to do on win7 so the kids can play games this way if they mess up win7 all have to do is pput win 7 cd and redo it and will still have my multiboot back up thanks for the help don't know if this any help but i had to install dotnet 4 cause I got error but it could of been cause i didn't have cfs3 installed yet after i installed cfs3 the error went away so i don't know if dotnet 4 that corrected or not having cfs3 installed. but short of it is the mos editor is working.
