Anyone have or know where to find this model? I get a 404 error here at the SOH and the zip on my hard drive is empty or corrupted.

This is a configuration for the Alpha F-3H Demon to be used as AI.

Install instructions:-

Unzip to a temp folder.
Copy your choice of model and texture files into the provided folders from your original F-3H folders.
Flight model works fine for Carrier "Traps"

I remember there was an specific AI model included with the Demon purchase at the old Alphasim site back in the days. That's how I got it.

Cheers,
Hank

Hank, thanks, the FS9 version is no longer for sale there and my original AI model from 2005 is missing so looking for places where it might still be found.

I was the painter on the original Alphasim release and I don't recall there ever being an AI model. Robert (Lightning) Baum, who did all the AI work for Alphasim back then, did on occasion put together new FDE files/folder sets to make the existing models usable as AI if they were light enough. That is what this package would have been -- no MDL or textures would have been included.

That's correct Frank, though on the forum, and eventually on the individual download section the AI model was included as a seperate download.

Cheers,
Hank

Thanks Hank for clarifying.

Including an AI model in a payware package though rare then and today was always an added attraction for me, as you could avoid using different, older and more crudely appearing models in your AI set up. Mind you, these were not nor could be super low poly models in order to
wear the same paints, etc. Think I have an "official" AI model for the AS A-3 Skywarrior. AS dropped including AS models around this time I believe. Wish there was one for their Crusader, Skyray and Phantom!

I guess I missed it. Do miss that forum though. There was always a lot of good mod threads from the many users of Alphasim products.

Well, just had an email from Robert Baum yesterday. I'll ask about the Demon.

Can't agree more! Even a couple of American naval Cold War period models such as the F3H, F-8, F4D, etc would be lovely - the talented Mr John Young has done a great job of covering that same period on the RAF/RN side of things with his Buccs, Hunters, and such. Similarly, that Rob Richardson has done an almost 1:1 ratio of all his flyable models in AI form is wonderful stroke of forethought.

So far as I know, in terms of American naval hardware, only dedicated AI models I'm aware of are

Alphasim A-4C Skyhawk (came with the Roosevelt Roads NAS)
Alphasim P-2 Nepture (I think also came with the above NAS)
Fernandez' F-4 Phantoms
Nick Black's/MAIW F-14s
Nick Black's.MAIW F-18 Hornets
MAIW A-4E Super Echos
MAIW TA-4J/Hs

There's also a bunch of MAIW trainers and transports that are further removed from the time/type category mentioned here ...

Now on this F3H model, ... I acknowledge that I'm a somewhat simple-mind individual ...so I'm probably missing something ... :)

... If you're using the original (non-LOD, VC-equipped, etc) model, how well would it work as AI? Wouldn't it kill your FPS?

thanks!

PS - you mentioned an AI A-3 - when/where was this made available - for some reason, that slipped my notice.... thanks!

I think the AS FS9 A-3B shippped with an unmentioned extra AI model AND a "parked" AI model (wings folded) if you took the time to look inside the model folder - kind of an easter egg surprise, which I always thought was very cool!
