..I have a big favor to ask.

I am looking at getting this package; however, there is one major drawback. Despite reading all the reviews and forum threads, I have yet to see what my favorite airports look like such as:

KOLM - Olympia, WA
KTCM - McChord AFB
KTIW - Tacoma Narrows
IPAE - Paine Field
KNVW - Whidbey Island NAS
KMMV - McMinnville, OR
KAST - Astoria, OR
S47 - Tillamook, OR

So, the next time you're flying around the great PNW, can someone post a few screenshots of these airports? It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Those are all "stock" Orbx airports so don't expect amazing looking airports. They all have some treatment from the Orbx library objects though. In general they look better than vanilla FSX airports.

One thing it does have is the three parallels at KSEA. Look in the "FSX screenshots" thread, P189 "Rafale" - the departure airport is NAS Whidbey.

KNVW - Whidbey Island NAS and Port Angles CGAS is at http://simviation.com/1/browse-Scenery-63-0 and http://simviation.com/1/browse-Scenery-63-1
Both work with PNW and sorry about the CGAS, but Port Angles is just a USCG Scenery Crowned Jewel for PNW.

Thanks olderndirt and CG. I'll take a look at what is over a Simvation, but it's not what I'm looking for.

The Review at Avsim says "Orbx reworked nearly 450 FSX default airports within the PNW region, correcting the various faults in the stock airports." I've only seen screenshots of a couple airports in the Orbx package so I'm curious as to what some of the others look like - specifically those I'm familiar with.

Thanks

You can see for yourself how they upgrade airports by downloading the demo. It's got all the Olympic peninsula on it. I've been to all the ones you mention and they are all like Astoria. Very nice upgrade from default. Nothing like the payware airports, but some of them are very nice, and all of them are a lot better than default.

It's nice to take a break and do some exploring... this time as a bird! I set the scenery, auto's, and aircraft to maximum settings for this airport. LOD_RADIUS was set to 7.5 so not to have blurriness in the distance.

Well, that was cool. Thanks, Tufun.

That last vid was over KOLM. And yes, we do get a lot of sea gulls in our area.

At about 1:48 min. into the vid, we're flying directly over the Olympic Flight Museum which lies on the Northern part of the airport off old route 99. Along the Eastern part of the airport is a heliport by Northwest Helicopters (http://www.nwhelicopters.com) where they service and rebuild helos, and serves as a base for the local air ambulance. There's a scenery addon (Olympia_heliport.zip) I found on Hovercontrol that adds that to the airport.

Later in the vid I can see where they've properly located our famed State Capital building in the proper location.

I placed my order for FTX Pacific Northwest yesterday, and should have it by next weekend.

Thanks again.

Be sure to download the FTX free airports available for the PNW scenery. Vashon (2S1) Hoquiam (KHQM) and West wind (7WA3).

All birds in FSX are required to have transmitters!

To place the transmitter on the bird, hold the bird firmly in the left hand, slide the right hand loop over the right foot, and pull the loop up as far as possible on the proximal end of the thigh. Now, grasp the bird in the right hand holding the transmitter over the synsacrum. Bend the bird's left leg at the tibiotarsal joint, slide the left loop over the joint, and pull the loop up to the proximal end of the left thigh. When properly placed and with loops of the proper size, the transmitter should ride over the feathers of the synasacrum with 1-2 mm of play (Fig. 1). If the transmitter is too snug, the bird will be unable to hop or walk. If it is too loose, the bird will quickly step out of it.

Sounds a lot like purchasing and installing some of today's FS software.

I did run into an error message which I corrected by editing the last entry in the scenery.cfg file. Apparently, the NTX PNW is required for one of these packages and I suspect it looking for a library that has not been installed yet.

You will need to download the latest Orbxlibs from the fullterrain.com site in the Support section and run that. And dont forget the patch for PNW - I think the current one is 005.

While you are there, get the AI package for North America too, its on the Freeware section.

Whew. I am THERE.

Got my FTX PNW package installed along with the patch, addon freeware and AI. I just adjusted my FSX settings this morning, and everything is as everyone indicated.

The only remaining item I need to address is the military AI. There were no aircraft at Whidbey Island NAS or McChord AFB, but I did see static aircraft at Gray AAF.

I see that JustFlight has a couple military AI packages, but am not sure if that would meet my needs or if I should look closer at adapting some of the MAIW packages for these fields.

Any thoughts or suggestions at this point??

Thanks

Military AI - militaryaiworks.com They have a Whidbey Island Growlers package that should fit the bill. Comes with scenery but you can always not install that (it is for FS9 but works fine with FSX). They have shedloads of packages for other US military stuff too :jump:!

Reminds me of Red Skelton sketch with two seagulls conversation - Gertrude and Heathcliff, went something like this:

Been flying for awhile, haven't seen any cars.

Funny, I just spotted one.

(My red RX7 gets dumped on a lot, the grey MG that I protect with a grey cover rarely gets touched. Birds see colour!)
