I knew the RealAir Spitfire was going to be great, and the Aerosoft F-16. What took me by surprise was the Aerosoft Hughes Racer. It looks different, takes great screenshots, has a well crafted vintage VC, you have to manage the engine, and framerates are solid.

What were your unexpected favorites of 2008?

I would say the A2A 377.

I expected a great product coming from A2A but what surprised me is just how much I enjoy flying it. I expected to like it, not love it :)

Dino's T-45, Piglet's A-29, and Alphasim's Blackhawk are three that I really enjoy and wasn't expecting. There's more nice stuff, but I either haven't flown it yet, or I knew it was coming.

I would have to say the 377 as well, incredible project. And.....the Carenado Cessna 152.

The F-16 made my day when it was released. I was expecting the Cat too, but since they had to start all over again with another developer (but it's the same guy of the H-1 and the screenshots of the not-yet-finished 'pit, are already looking extremely good)...but as you say, the Real Air Spit is a magnificent add-on. It's not perfect, but of a very high standard (despite my other words about it on another forum).

I'd like more decent amphibians for FSX in 2009.

I think the most unexpected pleasant surprises for me were:-

Alphasim's Mentor, Icarus's Gladiator and Realflight's Hellcat - a lot of others were no surprise and mentioned above.

Now - do we have space to list the many nasty moneywasting suprizes? Nah - we all know who they are!

Not really a surprise but very pleased with Capt Sims C-130 for FSX.

Aerosoft Tahiti X is terrific as Harleyman says, and I just ordered Aerosoft VFR London X.

Lots of goodies that satisfied; Tim's 200D is a great treat :woot: (as is his Mohawk which I know has been out for ages but I only got around to downloading it this week!).

Very pleased with the Iris F-20 and P-40 (Aces of the Commonwealth) and everything Orbx has brought out too!

Fav would probably be the Carenado 152 though - simple, feature-full and wonderful flight model! :applause:

Note to Tim on 200D - where are the dog treats??? :icon_lol:

Alphasim's Mentor has to be the biggest surprise of the year to me. I hope it wasn't a one off and the Islander is on a par.
