Is there a cfs3 'driveable' submarine around?

If not does anyone fancy making one, I'll help!

Thanks,

Pat

Edit: Found it in the ETO install! Shame it's a Jerry though :(

Nothing a little tinkering in some files and a new texture can't fix!
Doing an Allied one is a whole different ballgame and comparable to modelling an aircraft - you know how much work that is! But even so, you'd be a sitting duck as you cannot dive to escape. Are you sure you don't need a sub-sim? :icon_lol:

Wait a minute, I remember a drivable, diving sub from the past!

I will have to search a 1000 CD's but I have it from someone from years ago..
I had this loaded at one time some years ago..

The drivable U-boat is in ETO 1.4 along with a few missions by moi! It's a pig to 'drive' though. But it is fun once you get the hang of it. As it's rather slow you have to start missions rather close (unless you want to spend quite a lot of game time paddling about in the sea as you crawl along. What's you're interest Pat? Actually I could knock up an early Coastal Command mission where they were so short of aircraft to patrol the channel in 39-40 that they roped in some Tigermoths to drop flares on suspected U-boats to force them to dive! They called them 'Scarecrow' patrols.

Am in the middle of reading 'One of our Submarines' by Edward Young. Absolutely first class acount of his time in the sumbmarine service in ww2. I can't be bothered to learn yet another sim so thought if we had a british sub in cfs3 it could be a bit of fun.

I agree with Joost though, a new one would be a big project. I had some ideas on making one dive and surface and they're probably how Greg did his models.

Andre, where did yours come from?

Some more u-boat stuff:salute:

The periscope is raised and lowered by applying Shift + B (Bomb Bay Doors toggle).

The U-Boat will dive and surface by applying Shift + C (Canopy Open/Close toggle).

The torpedoes are armed by pressing Backspace.

The torpedoes are fired by pressing Enter.

great pics. :)

I came across this whilst browsing, an open source freeware sub sim.

http://dangerdeep.sourceforge.net/gallery/

It's now on version 4.0, haven't had chance to do much with it but it looks good.

The difference being the deployment opportunities I think. I'm no expert, but the closest Brit subs got was sinking Rommels supply ships in the Med.
