Hello All,

I purchased Aerosoft's very fine A-10 Warthog for FS9 a few years. Now that I am upgrading to FSX, I am looking for an A-10 on par with that one that's fully compatible with FSX.

Any suggestions?

IRIS is the only true FSX A-10...if you keep an eye out I'm sure the IRIS stuff will be on sale soon for the holidays.

hit me up on facebook as I've started and FSX only web page.

Have you considered looking into The DCS A-10C Simulation? It doesn't get any more "for real" than that.

Iris stuff with the exception of the Mud Hen, and probably the one they just released, has been on sale at half price for some time now.

Lots of time flying the Hawg with a military based VA, both the Aerosoft (FS9) and Iris. Make sure you get the hot fixes that should be on the Iris site if they are not included in the install download.

Anyone know what happened to the Iris online store? Been trying to get in all afternoon and keep getting a page not found.

<strikethrough>Anyone know if they ever put out any service packs or updates for the A-10? The flight model was pretty abysmal, IMHO. From what I remember (quite a while ago now...) I had trouble getting into the 20,000 foot range and couldn't get much or any above 30,000 feet. Supposedly the real one is capable of FL450...

Definitely had some major problems with it.</strikethrough>

Ah, guess they got it on their site. I will have to give this addon another chance! :salute:

Well... that doesn't make sense. Says the resellers have v1.20 but it is the same size as the original version I've got backed up. Does flightsimstore not have the most recent version?

Now I'm totally confused. Guess I already have the 1.2 version on my backup. I'll just install the darn patch and be quiet. :icon_lol:

I'll check it out, Phantom!

Hmph she's going back in the hangar. Hopefully someday the flight model will be updated so it can fly above 35,000 feet without stalling. The P-51 climbs faster (both airspeed and VS)... :mixedsmi:

Several friends of mine bought this model back when it came out(a good bit before my family bought it for me during the holidays in the usual FS stocking stuffers I request). While I did some minor adjustments in the FDE to answer their concerns, it was mainly in upping the roll and pitch rate a little. Otherwise I found it to match the numbers in terms of ICR, turn rate, pitch rate, roll rate and general speeds pretty well. It get's the 6000fpm+ climb rate with no problem BUT on the real bird that is Initial Climb Rate in a clean state. If you load up an A-10 with fuel and weapons, it's not that great of a climber right off the ground due to it's generally poor TWR. As far as high altitude operations and speed, even in ferry flight config it is very anemic at best high up. I can assure you that normally configured A-10's will hit the wall well before it reaches it's ceiling. Down low, it is a total animal. Up high, it's an empty shell. I always heard the joke that in certain scenarios, a P-51D could easily outperform the Hog and joking aside, it is probably true.

Years ago, I used to hang out with some USAFR KC-10A crewmen out of SJAFB who would comment about the limitations of different planes they tanked. They said they hated escorting A-10's across the pond because they had to slow down and descend to let them catch up even though they flew the KC-10 in a Lower Performance Profile until they could drop off the A-10's to another tanker track or feet dry divert. The FDE may not be perfect but I can't call it anywhere near terrible either.

Kiwikat, the hot fixes were on the site, you were shipped 1.2, the 1.3 fix is 6.9mb and is on the Hangar/A-10 page. As mentioned, even in a clean state on a FCF profile, the jet doesn't like to be above FL310. I've tried to tweak it to match the DCS Hawg more and I'm happy with it as it down LOW LEVEL. Load up some bombs via the now old method of a saved flight and have fun. I would happy as a hog in a .... if they would release a "C" cockpit update.

I'm quite tempted to buy the Iris A-10 as like the aeroplane itself. I normally only fly small single engined GA, but this quite appeals to me. So, if I keep it down on the deck and not at high altitude (did 10000 in a Eurostar once and 11000 in a 150) it should be a worthy purchase?

Down on the deck is where it's at with such a machine, it's great fun to fly, especially in the hilly areas :)
