Hello,

I thought I would post here as I know there a number of Ex USN chaps on here and I was wondering if you could help me, or more to the point a good friend from work out.

My friends father served aboard the USS Ticonderoga from 1944-48 as a gunner, his father passed away a few years ago but since then he has grown more and more interested in his time in the Navy and especially the Ticonderoga.

Could anyone suggest any websites / forums / associations where he may be able to track down photographs, commissioning / cruise books, or crew lists where he may be able to see his father's name? I may be totally shooting in the dark here, but thought I would ask as I read some great comments and recollections of old Navy stories on here.

Thanking you in advance for reading this.

Here is a Facebook page for Ticonderoga that might be good for starters...
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Uss-Ticonderoga-Cv-Cva-Cvs-14/103769536372279#!/groups/153946451331831/?fref=ts
I noticed another FB page but it didn't have as many posts as the above.
The majority of former crewmembers posting there are probably Vietnam era but more and more seniors are becoming savvy on computers and social networking so somebody might know your friend's dad or have Tico artifacts or papers from back then.

The Tico's Veterans Association might have some of what your freind is looking for. http://bigt.net/index.html
It looks to be a pretty good site for all things Ticonderoga, including the new Tico' CG-47...Don

Try emailing the Naval Aviation Museum at Pensacola: ebuehler.navalaviation@mchsi.com

Over the years I have received a lot of help from those folks. They are prompt in their replies, and will help you all they can.

Try www.navsource.org It's mostly photo's but if you find the ship your looking for there may be a link or two on its page that may interest you. Good luck!
