You have no idea how hard it was to keep from turning that into a joke.

I digress.

I was lucky, I had my Facebook up when that update came across my screen. ;)

I'm happy it's definitely the 'Z', given the split landing gear struts.
The 'Z' is my favorite of all of the Granville Brother's racers.
I have always loved the yellow/black paint work.

I still love Warwick Carter's version, but I will probably buy the Alabeo one and have it in the hangar as well.
Hopefully someone can make up a 'Rocketeer' paint as well for the Alabeo version.

Another one for my to buy list. I love these 30's racers...The GeeBee's make a challenging fly and and even more challenging landing... the view over the nose is none existant. I tend to cheat and go to the external view and I crash a lot still. I dont know how pilots cope in the real thing.

Alabeo is really storming the addon scene. I don't think I've ever seen any addon developer pushing so many planes out in so little time. They look good, fly like a dream and are affordable. And they make some peculiar aircraft choices, which is a huge plus.:salute:

New pics up at Alabeos' site. If you think you were excited before, make sure you get control of yourself before you head over there to check out the new pics. Yeah, it looks that good. :)

Once again, more new pics at their site. I busted out laughing when I saw the Rare Bear paint scheme on it, just because it was so unexpected. There's more modern racer paint schemes on it as well, though I'm really liking the over silver finished version the most. But that's because I really like silver airplanes. :)

No. No.
The one that made me bust out laughing was the Taco Bell 'Critical Mass' racing paint.
Anyone who has ever eaten Taco Bell knows how true that is....

thats funny...lol..

when tom dewelle blew his fingers off..he and i had PT at the same "work table" and we talked alot as all we did was sit and excise (work)our hands for an hour a day 5 days a week for 2 months..i saw ALOT of him,,,lol..but one day we were joking around..his eyes got big..he says utoh..critical mass...and ran off to the restroom....so that comment is really funny to me...

also..last i heard critical mass is at sanders shop being restored

Wow...neat story Dave!

I spoke with Mr. Dwelle at Reno. Him and his lovely wife took time to me their paint-scheme plans for the old 'Critical Mass' Fury. It is coming along nicely at Sanders shop, and will surely turn heads when complete. Tom is certainly looking forward to flying her again.

In regards to the GeeBee...I'm not sure what to think now? Those schemes do look pretty...maybe will get catchy!

Well... (Delmar Benjamin on landing the Gee Bee R-2 Replica)

"On landing, you need to keep speed up so you don't get into aileron reversal, and you need to see the runway, so usually when I'm downwind, when I cross the numbers I start a turn and come right down to the runway and level out and touch down and try to touch down easy because the shock absorbers on this thing don't work well, and it'll tear the gear off the airplane. Then your elevators quit working at about 80 mph, so the tail will come down on its own at about 80-100 mph and that is too fast to be going down the runway and you can't see anything in front of you. And there's so many curved surfaces you can't look out one side and tell if you're straight, so you try to put your head back against the headrest and you try to keep the same amount of runway on both sides—-you can only see a little pie shape of runway behind the wings and you try to keep the same amount." - Delmar Benjamin

R-1 and R-2 were larger, so you can see slightly better out of a 'Z', but same principle for landing, use your "peripheral" vision in the sim to have equal parts of the runway out the sides of the window.

For folks that want to practice landing a 'Z', Warwick Carter's wonderful freeware version of the Model Z is still available over at FlightSim.com:

I am getting this Alabeo version on release though. It's beautiful.
Any version of a Granville Brothers plane goes in my hangar. :applause:

Many thanks for the above information, so much appreciated. I was very lucky to see Delmar's replica flying at Oshkosh about 12 years ago. I've tried the freeware version this morning and had a few trials and tribulations, but in the end made a somewhat controlled landing and takeoff. Its not easy, but I'm getting there and looking forward to see the Alabeo example.

Thanks again,

Martin

It would seem to be "soon," as the latest update pictures they just posted were noted as Alabeo FSX Geebee ready for takeoff (http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.484027521655326.106546.222192937838787&type=1).
