To enhance the Viggen, get 'viggensn.zip' from Flightsim.com, and the three repaints by Pierre Lheureux from that same site.

The Viggen is most welcome and if I recall, the release is a reversal of their original position; they were going to try to update and sell it I thought. Regardless, thanks all.

I purchased both the Viggen and the Catalina about a year or so ago, they are very nice models with lotsa goodies. The PBY Cat comes in the "5" and "5a" versions and is an exceptional package. You all are gonna like these as freeware.

May be an opportunity for the repaint artists, it's a great scheme:

I paged through all 100+ PBY entries at FlightSim.com and didn't see any repaints by Pierre for the AlphaSim/Virtavia aircraft. Do you have a link, or file name(s)? There was quite a bit more available for Mike Stone's and the Aerosoft PBY's.

There are a few on the various sites, but none I found of the NZ Cat. Hope someone takes on that one.

Would anybody know how to delete the original 'modelled' lighting on the Viggen?
This is such a nice aircraft, but was certainly in need of a new illumination treatment...:-)

Very nice shots, Ferry... I have tried that repaint on me copy of the Alpha Viggen, but when I go to the spot view, all of the scenery gets fuzzy. It eventually recovers but takes it about 30 - 40 seconds. An anolomy I have never been able to resolve.:isadizzy:

LOL! I reckon if you went to the spot view and looked at the model for about 30-40 seconds with "no scenery in the view" that would be enough time for the sim to get it's stuff back together and make the scenery "un-fuzzy"...:icon_lol:

The repaint is exquisite.... wonder why it has such an adverse effect on the scenery in FS? There are 2 more repaints by the same chap, one a "Black Knight" scheme and the other is a "Last Flight" scheme. I'll have a go with those too and see how it works out.

Maybe its the same issue as with Dave Garwoods Hunters, i think the fix is openning up the textures in DXTBmp and saving with no mips, its been a while and ive forgoten exactly what to do, hopefully some other forum member may fill in the blanks,
cheers ian

Blackbird686

I had this same issue with some of Dave Garwood's models, specifically the Hawker Hunters... all of them. Buggar!!! :angryfir: There is an excellent Saab 105 model out there as well that also does this to my FS. Too bad, I really liked flying the 105... alot of thought and research went into creating that model, and it was "eye candy" in the spot view. At some point a few chaps here were looking at what may be the cause of this problem but I don't think a solution was ever found. At least I never heard of a solution for it.

I am going to put the "Knight Orden" textures in for the Viggen and have a go with them. They were done by Pierre also.

EDIT: I just opened up the textures with DXTBMP for the "Knight Orden" version. There aren't any mips (that I could tell), but I did see that it has an alpha channel for all of the fuselage parts.

That seems to be the way the PBY is designed. The Alphasim B-17D has a similar config.
I like the PBY a lot. Many thanks to Alphasim/Virtavia for this aircraft.

Gentlemen,
Can't help with the Viggen blurred texture problem straight away but the attached link has a fix for the same problem with Dave Garwood's Hunter's.
http://www.cbfsim.co.uk/cbfs_bb/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=22235&p=252147#p252147
The post second from bottom has the download link and the thread describes the problem in general. Just copy the textures from the zip into your Hunter texture file, (they work for single and two seaters), and alll should be well.
I expect the problem with the Viggen textures has the same cause as the Hunter; just a matter of finding and saving the relevant texture/texture's in the right format.
Goood Luck,
Alan

AK50... you are THE MAN!!! :applause::applause::applause: I went in and saved ALL of the textures for the Viggen repaints that were in DXT-1 format with mips using Martin Wright's DXTBMP and it fixed the scenery blurries! I have a few of Dave Garwoods Hawker Hunters that I'm going to re-install too, specifically the trainer versions. They will complement my Alphasim Hawker Hunter set very well.

Thanks for the link, mate. :ernae:

Took the Catalina up for a shakedown cruise to the San Juan Islands in Puget Sound and then on to Sydney BC. Great plane, even if the copilot's gauges are inop. I'll keep my eyes peeled for some WWII skins other than the included "Blackcat" skin included with both versions.

Hi WH,

The prop textures are really unique on the PBY!
I've been playing with the idea of a replacement myself, but the only improvement was to darken, blur and contrast the alpha a little.
It gives the prop a bit more transparency and takes away the 'sharpness'.
