Could be fun...:running:

PS--Thank you Virtavia! :ernae:

Yes THANK YOU VIRTAVIA!

What a HUGE airplane. I nearly ran over a Boeing 737 at KSEA with the C-5. Made that 737 look tiny!

Really need to dig up a superb sound pack for the Galaxy.

:salute: The soundfile is larger than the aircraft download, lol

I just logged into SOH to tell folks about that very same sound pack.....by Christoffer Peterson....who has done some amazing sound packs. It is a large sound pack.....52.3meg. I am also downloading his sound pack for the B-1 and will grab some more of his jet sound packs.

Definately BIG, :salute: that's for sure. I have enough room for all of my furniture, and both the Tacoma and the Ford F250 in there. One could easily live inside that airplane.

Aside from all that, I find the Galaxy to be an easy bird to fly. Another great Alphasim aircraft to add to my collection of "too many" planes. Thanks for the heads up, Drzook! :ernae:

Sweet! A C-5A to go with my C-5M from Area 51. I was hoping this would go free.

I was still missing a good quality military transport jet. This one looks great, just took it for a spin. It is so "fat" compared to a 747. Am going to try the advanced airfile tomorrow because it looks a bit odd when the flaps and gear deploy so fast on such a big bird. Here is the view from the LAX tower.

Not sure if you know this or not, but Alpha released their C-141 package as freeware some time back. If you don't have it in your collection, it is definitely worth grabbing as well.....makes a great little brother to go along with the C-5.

Oh...Christoffer Peterson's C-5 Galaxy sound pack (the one Falcon gave the heads up for over on Flightsim.com) is well worth the time spent to download it. It sounds unlike any jet pack have in my collection....not sure how much is sounds like a real C-5 as I have never seen a real Galaxy.

I have been flying the C-5A for a few days now... and the sounds by Christoffer Peterson are spot on! I found some repaints for the big jet, 4 variations of the grey scheme.... just search for asc5_779 at flightsim.com. Thought they were pretty nice, even though they are fictional:

C-5B Galaxy 779th MAS
Four repaints for the Alphasim payware C-5 Galaxy. The repaints are individually tail numbered with aircrew nickname above the crew door. The 779th MAS is a virtual squadron flying the C-5A and C-5B exclusively. Requires the base Alpha Simulation C-5. Repaints by Ron Rhea.

I have to say the advanced file set seem darn near what I'd expect something this big to handle like; spoken as one who has never flown anything bigger that an Archer but what the hey. I thought all it could use was some help with ground handling so I came up with the following contact point adjustments and a slightly smaller yaw MoI value to help out. It steers more predictably now and I didn't notice any change to the flight dynamics. To try them out just copy and paste over the corresponding lines in the cfg after making a back-up copy.

point.0 = 1, 83.00, 2.00, -16.94, 2500, 0, 2.0, 38, 0.2, 8.0, 0.95, 17, 17, 0, 250, 285
point.1 = 1, 83.00, -2.00, -16.94, 2500, 0, 2.0, 38, 0.2, 8.0, 0.95, 17, 17, 0, 250, 285
point.2 = 1, -7.50, -16.60, -17.46, 3000, 1, 2.2, 14, 1.0, 2.5, 0.40, 20, 20, 2, 250, 285
point.3 = 1, -4.50, -16.60, -17.30, 3000, 1, 2.2, 0, 1.0, 2.5, 0.40, 20, 20, 2, 250, 285
point.4 = 1, -7.50, 16.60, -17.46, 3000, 2, 2.2, 14, 1.0, 2.5, 0.40, 20, 20, 3, 250, 285
point.5 = 1, -4.50, 16.60, -17.30, 3000, 2, 2.2, 0, 1.0, 2.5, 0.40, 20, 20, 3, 250, 285

I did notice that the C-5 was a bit un-rulely on the ground but I didn't think the advanced FD made that much of a difference.. Thanks, Aeromed202 for the tweak, :salute: I'm going to have a go with it.

BTW, Crank up the volume if you have Christoffer Peterson's soundpack installed and watch all of your neighbors look up into the sky.

All this talk about the sound pack, so I looked it up and found I already had it installed. No wonder this is such a great package :cool:

FS2004 Alphasim (http://www.fspilotshop.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=333&ref=269) Lockheed C-5 TF-39 Fan Update. If you are disappointed with the texture of the original Alphasim (http://www.fspilotshop.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=333&ref=269) C5 Galaxy engine textures then this is for you. The most terrific thing about the GE TF-39 engine is that the 1/2 stage fan (booster core) is in front of the main fan rather than behind it like modern engines. This modification makes this happen. By Andre Williams.

Are there any other textures out there for it does anyone know?

Also, when I installed that pack of four, not all of the texture shows up, just the tail and the nose section, do I need to copy over some files from the original grey that comes with the a/c?

Thanks,

ChristoffNY

ChristoffNY,

I am guessing you are referring to the repaints by Ron Rhea? If the answer is yes, then you do need to copy textures from the "texture" folder into the new repaint texture folders. What I did was make a copy of the original texture folder and delete those bitmaps named C5_white... and C5_camo... just to cut down the size a bit, then copied a set of Ron's textures into that. You can make four new folders if you want, I just did one because they all look kinda the same to me.
