Interesting way to perceive where things fit...

This is another humbling one made in the late 70's. I remember it putting me in my place pretty well.

srgalahad - thank you for the link.

perception is, after all, reality.

isn't it?

It may very well be, or it may just be that you perceive it that way...:kilroy:

I thought the one below was interesting, but just because by the time you finish scrolling to the edge of the solar system, you're then informed that to get to the edge of the known universe you will need to keep scrolling for 22 million years!

Would it make a difference if one was to scroll at near the speed of light? Would that affect the tracking of the mouse? would your browser be able to keep up?

So many questions...

That would take infinite energy .... and you would break the mouse....... sorry.

Read this if you really desire to have some perspective....

That would take infinite energy .... and you would break the mouse....... sorry.

Now, in an Einsteinian universe, if one scrolled AT the speed of light... but I suggested "near the speed of light...' so theoretically one would not require infinite energy, but perhaps 'near-infinite' would do... but then, lacking positive proof, it may be that a mouse is not bound by the same constraints, so it may only need a mouse with near-infinitesimally frictionless surface and parts.. hmm..

and the problem with Mike's situation "to get to the edge of the known universe you will need to keep scrolling for 22 million years!" -- is that, regardless of speed, as you moved toward the edge of the known universe, it is possible that the edge would continue to recede due to continued observation) and therefore that 22 million years might take a lot longer, or not...

just trying to keep it all in perspective.
