The Super Corsair was based around the powerful Pratt and Whitney R-4360 Wasp Major engine, which was capable of providing 3000 hp, a big increase on the 2000 hp engine used in the original Corsair. In addition, an all-round vision bubble-type canopy was installed. The new aircraft was technically a great success. It could reach a speed of over 450 mph, fast enough to intercept the Japanese kamikaze aircraft at a safer distance from the carriers. However, before the F2G could enter full production it became clear that the war was coming to an end. Only ten production aircraft were completed before the order was cancelled. Gmax model by A.F. Scrub.

I saw that... and of course being a big fan of the vennerable ol' "Hog" I had to download it. It looks impressive enough, but I haven't fired it up yet. This IS a real first though, I haven't seen an F2G Super Corsair for flight sim since the VB Planes version for CFS2. And that's been a while.

I Have wanted an F2g a long time so I plan to spend as much time fixing it up as needed. It will be interesting.

I don't suppose anyone has any real 4360 sounds???

Check the library under Lawdog2360.... He may have done some for CFS2 that should work fine. Otherwise, I have a sound pack for the Wasp Major that's convincing enough if you're interest.

Aeroplane Heaven did the F2G in both Navy and Racer versions in their Corsairs late pack.

... Oh yeah... I fergot. At some point I may have to procure that pack from AH. I really like the later Corsairs, especially the F4U-5N and 5P Marine Corps variants.

$19.95 for both packs is a good deal; a lot of Corsairs for your money!

I must be stupid or something because I cannot find this file. The only F2G I can find is a CFS2 version that was uploaded two years ago.

I have the full Aeroplane Heaven Corsair set. Having much knowledge about the bent wing bird, I was a bit disappointed with their renditions of the Corsairs. Recycling the F4U-5 cockpit for the F2G? Really?

Is the sound for the Aeroplane Heaven 4360 any different than their 2800? It should sound a lot smoother with 28 cylinders as opposed to 18. I suspect they used the same sound pac for both.

FWIW ------ Go to simviation.com and search for "R-4360".

Same for both, sadly.

Here is a corrected aircraft.cfg file. Changes are numerous but COG and contact points are the main items corrected. Fuel flow at startup is on the fine edge with throttle closed. If it won't start crack the throttle open a tad. I could have increased the min fuel flow but then it idles too fast.

Here's an interesting bit I found on this plane: when the throttle is past 90% the bottom part of the rudder kicks out to the right, like a giant trim tab. Maybe to offset the torque?

I tried the B-36 sounds from SimV but there are no startup and shutdown sounds. Not only that there is something that keeps repeating every several seconds; all I can think of is yet another plug fouling. Not the best sound; will keep looking:running:

This plane reminds me of a very old video game I used to play called 'Corncob 3D' where you fly a Super Corsair against an alien invasion. Ahhhh, Good Times...:ernae:

I think I might be onto something with finding the right soundfiles...

These were originally Lawdog's R-2800 Bearcat sounds modded by our own OBIO to sound more '28 cylinder-ish':running:
Thanks guys!:ernae:

Also, Thanks Terry for the modded .cfg file!:guinness:

The exhaust manifold system on the F2G was designed so that only two cylinders would share each exhaust pipe. This makes the exhaust note very choppy at idle.

Terry,
When the engine dies on idle you need to adjust 'idle friction'. Not min rpm. That is for reverser and is usually negative (ie: -0.350). This is one tip I helped David Marshall (Opa) with, a month or so before he passed. The Goodyear died on me too, so I had to make the adjustment: 'idle_rpm_friction_scalar= 0.650'. Works for me. The other 3 stay at '=1.000'.

I spent all night flying the F2G and made a turbo-prop and a piston 'super racer' (445 kts) set of FDEs. I need to 'clean' them up a bit and will post later today (tuesday). I am beat and it's time for me to take my pill and hit the hay. It flys 445 kts. Real easy to control (went and 'did' a couple of those red Barns-have it on video). But the FDEs are not aerobatic (not yet). Just easier to fly, more speed, and lands at aprox 55-60 kts. I'll be back.

I see Mr Scrubb posted an F2G-1 and another F2G-2 yesterday. I wondered what the difference was compared to the one we have so I sent an Email, here is the response.

These are 2 completely new models with new textures, corrected flaps, ailerons, nosecowl. The F2G-1 had a low tailfin and the F2G-2 a higher one to increase stability at high speed.
It's now much easier to do repaints too. The old version has faults in the flaps, ailerons and rightwingtexture, sometimes problems with the gunsight and turning prop, viewed from the Vcockpit and much more complicated textures..
kind regards, A.F.

I guess I'll start over. :isadizzy:

Well you might want to start with my new FDEs (hehe). Here they are. Zip has read me. Hope the FDEs help. I know I couldn't fly it the way it was. But that's the way it goes sometimes. Enjoy.

Edit: Just went and tried my FDEs with these new uploads (in FS9) and my FDEs work good. Not tested in FSX Accelleation yet, but should be 'ok'.
Edit: Tried in FSX Accelleration and they work good. Too good, actually. It's OVERPOWERED I must admit (but can be fixed). Have to use propdisk.bmp (in Accelleration folder) and then do a rename to 'propdisk4.bmp' for prop fix to work.
