I've heard something about setting up a dual core comp to where FS9 only runs on one core and everything else on the other. Supposedly it helps FS9 run better. Anyone know anything about this and how do you set it up?

(I just got a dual core Pentium machine to replace the old "dino-comp" and I'm getting everything set up now)

ETA: It's a XP 64 OS

Open Windows Task Manager, go to "Processes" right-click FS9 (which must be running) and set "affinity" for whichever core you want.
Repeating this for other stuff running at the time, you'd put some on the other core.
I do this with FRAPS (when I remember) which can be CPU intensive

I use SMP Seesaw Pro http://www.mlin.net/SMPSeesaw.shtml just as you start fs load this program select "isolate on CPU(s)" and chose one core other programs will be automaticly put on other cores.

FS9 will use only one core, so you must designate which core you want FS9 to use. By putting FS9 on one core and Windows and all other processes on another core, at least in theory, you should get better performance from FS9.

I've installed it and it has improved FRAPS performance.
Thanks for the pointer.

I use this one: (AVSIM)

FS2004 Affinity Tool

File Description:
If you has multi core computer you have to do: " After starting FS, go into task manager (CTRL_ALT_DEL) Select Processes tab Right click on FS9.exe, select "Set Affinity" Disable one of the two check boxes so that FS9 only runs on one virtual CPU. Do the same on any other running utilities and select the other virtual processor." You don't have to do With "Flight Simulator 2004 Affinity Tool"
