Capt. Wiliam T. Whisner352nd FG 487th FSBill Whisner first came into prominence as wingman to famous ace George Preddy. In January 1944 he was there as protection when Preddy claimed his first Victim.Whisner scored his first personal victory against a 109 while he covered Preddy's lead. After the 487th switched to the Mustang in the Spring he flew Princess Elizabeth, then when he got the D model, named it Moonbeam McSwine after the Li'l Abner character. Subject aircraft paint is around Dec. 1944After scoring 15.5 victories and earning TWO Distinguished Service Crosses in World War II, Major Whisner returned to combat in Korea where he again became an Ace, netting 6.5 victories and earning a third Distinguished Service Cross. In the post-Korea years, William Whisner continued his career as a fighter pilot, winning the Bendix Trophy Race in 1953. After retiring as a colonel, he finally settled down in his home state of Louisiana. On July 21,1989, Col. William Whisner died of a yellow jacket sting. Great job, Rick, thank you for reproducing this one!

"As a boy lieutenant, I was coerced into giving the name Princess Elizabeth to my until-then nameless P-51B by an eager young PIO (Public Information Officer) from New York. Named in honor of "the" Elizabeth (later to be Queen Elizabeth), it was thought that favorable publicity would accrue to the group should I do some good things in combat in the 51. However, I immediately succumbed to the kidding and changed the name to what I considered the complete social antithesis - Moonbeam McSwine." - Col. Bill Whisner, February 9, 1988.

Thank you for the lovely repaint! Which model is this for? The aircraft.cfg entry shows "model = Moonbeam" however I'm guessing this is in error? Thanks!

Sorry I totally forgot this aircraft needs separate model files For a quick fix create a model.moonbeam folder and use the Model.BBD files from the P-51D_Little_Friend75_DT folder.
I'll upload an update
