Does anybody know of a good P-39 for CFS2? I've been looking, but most of the ones I download don't show up in my aircraft menu. It's weird because they have all the necessary folders.

Thank you,

Walter

For the ones that aren't showing up, double check that the panel and sound folders either both have the correct files in them, or are properly aliased - I've had more than a few planes not show up when I copy them to a new install because I didn't update an alias file or two.

Also, check the air file to see if they're set to AI or flyable. If you have AirEd, you can look for the line "105 Aircraft Type=". AI will say "=2", flyable will have "=0". Anything with the =2 won't show up in your aircraft menu.

As for the P-39, I tend to use the OH default from B24 Guy.

Or try either of the 1% P-39s would be nice. Remember to fly them on flight model = Hard and weapons on Strongest for the most realism. Don't forget to download and install the 1% gauges. :applause:

Thanks for the help and advice. Real quick-Where would I find these?

Many thanks,

Mine is based on the B-24 Guys Overhual P-39. I'm using my OH P-39 Model Update for the Interior that remove the odd brown and yellow for the VC.

My Panel & Virtual Cockpit upgrade for OH models that set the Panel & Virtual Cockpit up closer to the real world. I would post a pic but my past Attachment have been wiped out... The DP is based on the stock P-39. I fixed gun firing the sounds that were wrong and put the engine in the right box. MS had the enging in the nose box... I was using the 1% air but since I need a plane that the AI can use I've been building one.

I'm attaching my P-39D as it is now.

What P-39 did you use? Mine and the 1% don't like going above 12000 ft. The single-stage, single-speed supercharger dosn't work at all above 17000 ft however below 12000 ft you can go head to head with any Zero or Oscar as long as you don't dip below 100 MPH.

I used the Over Hauled one with the 1% air file because I like its VC better than the 1%'s VC. It performs great!

One more question: Where does one get AirEd. I can't find that either.

Thank you!

Simviation has 1.42 in the old CFS2 Utilities
http://simviation.com/cfs2utilities1.htm (http://simviation.com/cfs2utilities1.htm)

In the FSX Utilities has the newer 1.52. I use this one.
http://simviation.com/1/browse-Utilities-65-5

Also AirWrench is nice since it make things simple to under stand but it is stuck in demo mode unless you pay but using AirWrench as reader to make thing simple to read and do all the work with Airedit the best thing to do on the cheap.

I was playing around with a plane, trying to make it AI, but when I went to the quick combat screen, it wasn't on the enemy scroll down window. What else should I try?

Walter,

Every model intended to be flown against as an enemy (allied or axis) must be added to the QC file located within the Quickcom folder. This makes it appear in the "enemies" selection list. Since you're new to this aspect of editing the quick combat file, note that it can be done manually, but for the noob, its best to to download a QC editor. Go to Simviation.com and search for "Jsqced - QC Editor". This tool will help you. Its very old and could use some updating for user friendliness, so at first it may seem a little complicated. But you'll get the hang of it in time.

But first, i would suggest opening the QC file with notepad and studying the layout to get an idea of how the QC editor does its magic. You may even figure out in a snap how to do it manually. ;)

I thought the Simtech P-39/P-400 was pay. At one time had the MZ P-39 before the the OH P-39 it may have been before visable AI models from the cockpit.

The Simtech P-39 can be found over at Flightsim.com as freeware. Search for the file "simt_P39.zip". It's a huge file around 97 megs and is listed as a file for FS2004, however, the CFS2 version is included in this file. It's a nice plane, I still enjoy flying. Also, David Green did a couple of nice textures for it which can be found at Flightsim as well.

This is why it pays to pay attention to this forum. These AC are wonderful. I'll have to go back and pull out some old Campaigns and Missions and re-fly them substituting these P-39s/400's.

Many thanks for the tip....msfossey!

The SimTECH P-39 and P-400 are great looking AC. They fly better than any others I've use in CFS2, and both are very stable gun platforms.
The P-400 has an ordnance problem though. Instead of the bomb and pylon hanging centerline, the pylon is on one wing and the drop tanks or bombs are suspended under the other.
The P-39 is fine.

Nevermind! I deleted the CDP in the P-400 File and the problem disappeared.
