I have just got it. Wow - fantastic. The best compliment i can give after a few mins of flying is that it could be a Real air product - simply great. Love the fact that the femail pilot has a big smile on her face!

time this treat got to be a sticky guys

Just only the price, 39$. A little a lot for ultralight for me.
RV8 of Vertigo Studios (Im happy user) just near 25$.

February 24th, 2012, 14:01
It is worth it. Every penny. I have both, Vertigo and Baytower. Different aircraft from different development houses. Both OUTSTANDING models, and fun to fly. I wouldn't pass up either of them. Get both, If you can afford to do so, and you will see what I mean.

I agree Felixthreeone - both will be flown frequently in my virtual airspace

I love the detail. I hope that they drop the price to enable more people to be tempted.

I, personally, feel that the price is quite fair for an addon of this level of completeness. Is it on the high side for fs addons? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely. If you like GA, and RV's in particular, there is no reason not to purchase it. Just my opinion.

...Maybe they will have a sale on it sometime in the future...the more people that purchase and fly it, the more positive press it will recieve!

I'll definitely have to finally pick this one up - I've always liked Vans aircraft, and this one is without argument, a very, very fine reproduction of the RV-7!

Barnes, if you get this, would you mind sharing what the scenery is in your screenshot of "G-KELS"? It looks interesting. ; )

Very nice screenshot and scenery too, Roger!

This product is amazing. It's probably the best GA aircraft I own (at least it's the one I like the best). Great model, FDE feels great, VC is excellent, sounds are very nice.

The only thing I would even change is making it possible to use male pilot.

Why, I am sure almost half of FSX users are female (or have a feminine side)...............NOT!!! I for one will wait until this option becomes available, I know it's not real, but all the same for that price I could probably make a downpayment on a sex change:kilroy:

I've been flying it since the beta, and it is by far my favorite add-on plane. I could take the price of half a dozen of the other planes I have bought and pay that for this one and still be happy. But then, I prefer GA and I am an EAA member so I especially like homebuilt GA..... Each to his own. Either way, the flight model is better than any of my other planes (only by a little) and the way it looks is better than any of them (by a lot).

I gotta say these cockpits are getting TREMENDOUS. Just absolutely gorgeous. Gauges that work that look that good. Wow.

I'm talking about more than just this one. All across the spectrum, developers are really, REALLY getting good at this.

alehead
February 26th, 2012, 12:56
It is a GA must have in my book... The RXP integration is complete, full 3D, the gauges in the VC are gorgeous to look at, the FDE feels just right, the prop sound is not linked to throttle setting, it spins...

I love it. Best spent $39 or whatever it was for months... I mean, even the fuses work...

If you like the A2A/Katana4X type of airplane, you have to add this to the hangar... it is great for punching a few aerobatic holes in the sky as well as point to point VFR... one for OrbX World...

Thanks for all the feedback. I just wanted to post a hello. I think it’s important to have a frank thread and maybe when the dev starts to post it doesn’t help. But I am a SOH member; and, SOH has the best flight model forum by far – so it’s contributed a great deal to the project. I think anyone that has a builder-pilot-owner-EAA streak in them is going to get the intensions of the RV7 project right away. A lot of the great things about FS have nothing to do with all that. So I am really, seriously, happy to read when people do appreciate this work. So thanks for that :salute: :)
Cheers,

I don't often fly GA but when I do...make it Baytower RV7.

Absolutely gorgeous work on this aircraft. I don't mind the lady pilot at all. A variety of pilot choices is always a nice plus for any model. Don't see that very often.

The craftsmanship and artistry of our devs these days is so high that we expect so very much more than say 5yrs ago. What was truly great back then is barely good now. Danny and this Baytower/Vans RV7 have raised the bar yet again to a new level.

Anybody want to put guns and night vision in it and use it for hunting drug runners? No...please don't. 'RV Ronda' might look good in cami.

My car is a 1997 Mazda MX-5 Miata. Its a great little convertable for touring the wine and costal areas around here. Anyway for the fun of it I decided to paint the RV in 'Twilight Blue Mica' based on my Miata. Gave it an NZ registration...always wondered how fun it would be to drive my Miata around those NZ costal roads.

Nice repaint pilotjj....you would certanly enjoy our coastal roads in a MX-5 although this summer at this end of the country was lousy. When the kids leave the roast a MX-5 is on my shopping list.

Just wondering if anybody would be interested in doing a real world NZ repaint of any of the NZ registered taildragging RV-7s ...

Bit overpriced for my liking.

I checked the earliest thread started in the forum which was 2006. I suppose it's not too expensive for 5-6 years work, lol?

pilottj
February 28th, 2012, 22:54
The price seems to be the going rate. The latest Carenados are getting close to 40USD...about the same as this RV-7.

hews500d
February 29th, 2012, 03:01
I have paid more for add-ons in the past and gotten LOTS less fun and thrills than I have with the RV. 5 to 6 years work going into this, I would say the price is relatively cheap, considering the fde's alone give more of a sense of real flight than anything I have seen recently in FSX.

Price comfort is different for everyone, but in terms of value it's hard to beat. Superb model in every way. You can fly in and out of small strips, yet cruise at very high speed, it's nicely aerobatic and has great visibility for sightseeing. My advice would be resist the impulse buys, save your money up until you have enough for this model.

kludger
February 29th, 2012, 14:49
I was intimidated by the price as well initially many months ago when it was still in beta and $38, but it came well recommended and all these months later this is still one of my favorite planes in the virtual hangar and I fly it all the time, whereas some of the other planes I bought after this for similar prices I don't even fly as often.

There is just something great about it's great visibility, fun handling and great cockpit and modeling which combined with the hotrod engine/power makes it perfect for the type of lowlevel GA flying I do.

All I can say is if you are worried it may not be worth the cost the Flight1 30 day guarantee is your friend, that's what made me take the leap, but I suspect like many of us, you will find it very much worth it after you fly it.

I made a few minor changes to ZK-MX5. I was unable to go with the black panel because I could not properly change the night panel lighting texture properly to go with it so went with the default vc textures.

Pilottj great textures ;)
I love the stick-on style reg numbered for ZK-MX5 ...that's a cool way to add a lot of style.
</SPAN>
I hope you can get your black panel to work...I have one somewhere. The trick is your choice of 'black' can't be too dark...it may sound wrong, but pure black is reflecting zero light and that's very rare. In the average photo blacks are usually shades of gray. You likely didn't use pure black, but try lightening your panel even further. Lighten you panel colour until it matches the 'black' in the panel gauges (try 15% bright). This will give the FSX environment lighting some room to work with (from intense sun to shadow). The night lighting uses a multiply function so the panel colour needs to reflect some light...a gray will do that.
</SPAN></SPAN></SPAN>
Nice work, the designs look awesome.
Danny

March 3rd, 2012, 12:15
Thanks Danny, I still might attempt a black panel with another repaint. When it is released people can copy it to the ZK-MX5 scheme. I sampled the 'black' of the dashboard which is a dark grey. It looked very nice in the day time but when turning on the panel light at night it reverts to the 'lighted' default panel colors. I need to figure out how to create the light splash for the black panel. I don't suppose you have a PSD layer or layout of the panel light splash :)
