Hi Guys,
just to let you know that our "Zipper" is on the way and the painters have almost done their job. The external model is totally new, and we are working on the retroillumination of the cockpit instruments......I have uploaded new photos with some detail of the model, others photos with the new fuselage with texturing will come soon....
The model will be FPS friendly as the "old" one, but with many more details...:icon_lol:
enjoy

Brilliant, SkunkWorks F-104 is one of the planes I fly most in FSX. Already a premium model :applause:

How about some shots of the general fuselage and no just gear and speed brakes ?

Hi Dag,
the reason is that the texturing of the fuselage is not yet complete, we are adding details to the texture, so as bumps (minimal....the Zipper had a very smooth surface)...and spec....The pictures will come soon...
Best regards

Sorry guys for delay in external pics,(real) flying of these last days is driving (or flying?) me crazy.

So..

How do you prefer?

Just pulled off from paint factory?

Hi...
we will check them...it could be a perspective artifact.....

waiting for an exact answer, however sometime the camera lens can fool the human eye, here the difference is not noticeable.

btw:
just saw another error, let the modeler to discover it and correct it ... :-)

Splitter plates on the intakes should be more conformal to the fuselage, possibly. More round and less visible from head on, maybe ?

Yes, however modeler said that my picture was made with an old model, they have been already corrected.

Luce, this comparison picture is really interesting, and in my opinion it also shows that your team has done quite a good job with the 3D model !
I have two remarks:
- I hope the canopy of this F-104 will look as good as the one from the Harrier (I think the glass material with reflections is extremely realistic on that one)
- don't you think the textures in the engine intakes should be darker ? It's almost black in the real picture (because of shadows/lack of light) and it's very clear on the 3D model.

Cheers.

- Cannot assure two canopy will look exactly the same since modeler are different person with their own "tastes", you know.
- Yes materilas are "flashing" since still with no specular map so materials reflect at maximum. Specular maps will render it realistically.

Thanks Daube, you are right, but remember these sounds are for the "G" version, equipped with the "-11" engine. For the S version,"the song remains the same" as per version 3.1 (S model),without the "scream" of the -11 engine version. In fact, the different noise (or music,as you wish..) between the S and the G was made by a different exhaust pipe, that in the -11 version was producing this unique and emotional sound.

If the flight model is even close to the Cloud9 I will be happy. That was a very unforgiving plane. If you were sloppy with the pitch angles, speeds and flaps it would bust yer butt. No forgiviness or exceptions.

I can remember taking it up to 40 grand and putting it in a spin. As far as I remeber nobody ever recovered from one. The hand book procedure for recovering from a spin was ejection.

Number one killer was spins on short final and exceeding the climbout pitch which the fuse blocked air off the tail resulting in a stall.

Hi,
we used for a long time the C9 F-104 model and we did also a port over on FSX that is actually distributed as freeware, so we know it very well.
C9 F-104 was a good model not but not strictly adherent to the dynamics and behavior of the real thing, it
introduced artificial difficulties to make it more difficult to handle but in many cases these difficulties were unrealistic.
IE:
- an introduced compressor stall at high attack angles and low speed, the zipper could not fly at angles of attack able to shade the air intakes.
- the BLC asimmetry induced by a sudden throttle chop was really ininfluent, more important the consequent lift drop that was not reproduced on C9 104
and several others.
The SIM SKUNK WORKS F-104 is a giant step ahead, we can honestly say that this model is 99% compliant with the reall performance tables and test flights in the most dynamic conditions of flight:
- High angles of attack stick shaker stick kicker, lateral instability and pitch-up
- Inertial coupling
- Takeoff, climb, cruise, high speed manouvering, aerobatics, etc..
- supersonic acceleration and cruise
- Approach and landing (BLC control)
and many other peculiar aspects of the zipper.
Finally the dynamic model has been tested and validated by 2 pilots of F-104, an Italian and a German that flew more than 2000 flight hours on the real zipper.
Users of the SSW F-104 can bear witness.
cheers

Interceptor version, newest with the 3.2 fuselage, finished today, together with Fighter Bomber, both accomplished for the "solo" version. Now it is time to apply the textures for the multiplayer version (the "ubuntu") then we will be ready for the relase. In this new variant you will be able to carry the all the combinations regarding tips & pylon tanks,AIM9 and AIM 7.
