The Mi-12 is the largest helicopter ever built. The name "Mi-12" would have been the name for the production helicopter. Since the V-12 never went into production and only two prototypes were built, the name "Mi-12" was never officially adopted. By Kazunori Ito (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/main/review/ito/ito2.htm).

Agreed OleBoy but

Knowing he is alive and well will do for me, anything else is a bonus.

I wrote to him to ask how he was and got this back (I am paraphrasing here):
"I'm fine but my eye is still not well. I had a request for the recent model and that's why you found it on flightsim.com. I'm glad I still remember how to model, however my eyes still get tired from the work. I want to continue to do modeling to stay proficient. The next project will be. . . . .the Bat Wing? By the way, there was a texture mistake in the current upload "Rotor.bmp" was in full color and not 256, a new file is being added. Please enjoy and thanks again for writing. Regards, Kazunori Ito, Fukuoka, Japan

Excellent news for anyone who has ever flown one of Ito Sans models. He is doing something he really loves doing. Good for him!!

OleBoy, no dispute there just adding my thoughts, it was a long time since he was last heard of just nice to find he is ok.

This is just such incredibly good news; as with others, I don't mean from our point of view as 'consumers' of Itosan's work, but simply to hear that he is safe and (relatively) well after all the tragedies that Japan suffered last year. :applause:

"Ito San" is back ? Good to hear this ! I know very well how it is when your eyes are making problems...

As Falcon, and got the same reply, which is good news for him. I think he really appreciates the good thoughts from the sim world.

He also passed on a corrective texture for his latest Mi12 (that should be Homer not Hormer), for the rotor blade tex, attached here for anybody who needs it.

It's good to hear that everybody is just thankful that his eyesight (for his own sake) has not deteriorated any further.

Nice to know he can still function. It's the sh--ts when you get old and everything gets delapidated. You can't 'push' harder, either, as you might hurt yourself. I take a lot of naps (hehe). I went and tried it in FS9 and then FSX. Prop looks 'ok' to me (in FSX it hides the tress, etc, but it's not too bad). In both you have prop shadow (no biggee). Dynamics were 'ok', but I had Rotodyne FDE's (with spoiler, flaps, pitch trim, Autopilot, etc) so I used those and made a video of Mi-12 'Homer' in FSX (hope it's ok to post link).

Edit: It also has floats and reverse thrust (it's a jet engine). FDE's will be available tomorrow (will provide link to zip at host site).

I really hope all goes well again with the eyes of the ONE guy who always makes it so easy to enjoy the hobby or repainting! His textures are dead on... no need
to fool around trying back and forth to line them up with the flying model!!!
I felt so inspired, I started immediately to redo the livery (Ito is the greatest modeller but textures perhaps seem to be only of so much interest to him)
Aarigato gosaimatsu, Ito-san!

SugoiWell it's great to hear that's he's back and doing what he does best, who else would do a rarity like this?

Fantastic news

Kind regards

Ladies & Germs,
Here is the link to FDE's for Ito's Mi-12 'Homer', for both FS9 and FSX (seperate zips). His dynamics were GOOD this time (must of got help-hehe), but I wanted spoiler, flaps, and floats, so I made these FDE's. Hope you like.

FSX link: http://www.filefactory.com/file/c23f46d/n/Mi12_FSX.zip .

*There is one thing you must do. Change 'panel=hjaF' to 'panel= ' (ie: blank). Sorry about that. In FSX if panel is 'wrong' the model won't show/load, so this 'mistake' really haunts me (do it every time-hehe). Please read the 'Readme_cb' for info, tips, etc. Thanks again Kaz. Nice job.

What a piece of fun to fly! Thanks Ito San!
I have been looking for some real sound footage, but everything documented is without sound.
Such a shame. Anyway here's an 'artist impression' of what I could imagine it might sound like (Without start up+shutdown)...

Really pleased to hear the legend is back; I still fly his Gannet and Lightning on occasion. I love how there is a following for British Cold War jets in Japan (among other other countries) where you might not necessarily expect it. Ito-San has modelled several un-sexy types that other developers would avoid, and I respect him for that.
Having had some eye problems myself in the last couple of months I can sympathise on a minor scale with what he might have gone through. Damn good to hear he is somewhat better now. Let's hope he stays that way.

A few "in-sim" shots. Wish I could put a shine on it, but the textures don't allow that, they become transparent if you add an alpha.

At Itosan's admission his gauges will not work in fsX. I verified that statement when I installed it in fsX Gold. Has anyone come up with a replacement gauge set?

napamule
February 12th, 2012, 11:07
No, I don't have no stinking gauges (hehe). But, I DO have a 'Works in FSX' PANEL, by HJ Altman, called 'jet' panel. Case closed. I also have a video of BatWing in FSX (looks/works the same in FS9). I made it VTOL and it flys like a charm. No 'heavy' trim pitch or trottle adjusting required. In fact the model SEEMS to have 'built in' pitch trim. With Ito panel in FS9, click 'Z' key to activate AutoPilot (but don't set alt or vert speed) and you will notice pitch trim 'follows' your elevator. Ha! That Ito is a funny guy. Video: http://youtu.be/Ef1Tdb-XlRI . Enjoy.

That's no problem, run it through MDLC and there you have it as shiney as you want!

Ok, thanks for the HU. . . .however. . . ."run it through MDLC" means nothing to me. I'm not familiar with that program and the only one I could find (a beta version) would not load in Windows7 64bit.

I am very glad to see that Ito-sama is back. There are very few prolific Japanese designer in the community, so it's a big pleasure to see him return. :)

Hi Falcon,
Unfortunately no, MDLC is a 32bit DOS based prog and won't run on a 64bit OS. You could install a 32bit OS within 'Virtual Machine', but that's a lot of messing around. If you have an old laptop or anything running a 32bit OS, that would be the easiest answer.

Cheers

Shessi

Ivan Hsu talked of doing a 64bit version, but not to date.

I went looking for Mr. Itos Batplane and ran upon this

http://www.vgamenetwork.com/signup?ref=100691&sf=one&creative=15693899634&ky=&placement=www.fs2000.org&gclid=CKmbyYSknq4CFU9ntgodRjYdLQ

After you fill out the required blanks you can download the plane. However should you upgrade your download
they will charge it on your credit card. Since I don't have a card I got out of there. Does this sound like Payware to
you? Note: I got it at Flightsim.
