I just found the best dust/dirt run effect of all time! It is the effect that comes with the LIC Bellanca Scout tundra tire version. Absolutely amazing. I have been using the dirt effect from one of the Nick's Dusty packages....but will be changing all of my planes over to use the dust/dirt effect from the LIC Bellance Scout tundra bird. The name of the effect file is LICScoutdustrun.fx, so if you have the LIC Bellanca package installed...that's the dirt/dust effect you want to use on your planes.

I think that set has an equally good water spray too, LICScoutbowg.

The LIC Bellanca Scout package and an update can be found on Flightsim.com. Do a search for Long Island Classics Design Team and you will find tons of wonderful planes and paint kits for them.

Don't forget the fix package for the Bellanca.....it fixes a problem with the float version.

The Long Island Classic Aeroncas are among my favourites, but I hadn't come across the Bellanca before. Thanks Obio! The float fix is 8kfix1.zip (http://www.flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=69309), also from Flight Sim.

I'm wondering if Daube was after a link, or maybe a screenie? I'd like to see the latter before I replace some of mine?

Indeed I was interested in screenies, to see what this effect looked like :)

Of the effect(s)... Quote (from ReadMe): 'Thanks To Bill Lyons for his ground and water effects' (circa 2003).

Works in FSX too, by the way. I use it for (all) my vehicles. That Bill Lyons (and Lynn) were genius and way ahead of other developers of the time.

Edit: Oh. I USED to not use effects in FSX as dust effect would knock the frames down to 9 fps. But NOW it's 'OK'. I got a i7 2600K @ 3.4 Ghz with 8 Gig Ram and HD5770 1Gb DDR5 video card and the frames (locked at 30) STAY at 30. So your milage may vary on effects in FSX.

Yes, I'd noticed the mention of Bill Lyons, whose dust and spray I already use on most types. The Bellanca in my screenies above is at Bill's Bear Canyon, from his Piper Cub pack.

Thanks a lot for the screenshots :ernae:
I'm wondering if I should try to replace the FSX default dust effect with this one... I'll have to test it.

I have tried and compared all the available effects except FSX. I feel that Nick's Ver. 2 is still the best because you automatically get the proper effect for the terrain you are on such as dirt gravel, snow, water, etc. And it's not only off the wheels as you roll, you get a prop wash effect on the ground for dirt, snow and water when stopped or rolling.
I attached a small file that shows what the aircraft.cfg looks like when installed. Remove the .txt extender so it becomes an .rtf file, rtf's won't upload.
