Continuing the DeHavilland “twin boomer” theme here is the DH 100 Vampire FB 5.
There is a paint kit and an AI model available also.

These models just get better and better! I wonder if someone could say if the cockpit frame could be textured? Although minor, that zinc chromate colour is not good for a Vampire (or any other Brit of the period), it should be black or a pale green. As I said, a minor thing in a super new model!

Wow !
Super nice piece of digital artwork !
Thanks to Mr. Richardson for this superb freeware.

Now what we need is our "SOH" members "TopGun Repainters" to cover
the 32 different countries that have flown this Twinboom Jet.

And I am not counting the number of Squadrons.
Too many ones !!!

SteeveB ?

Others ?

Interested on Vampire repaints ?

Thanks again to Mr. Richardson !

Hi Peter, not a FB5 I know but a Vampire F3, hopefully you can do a what if for me which is could you transport me back 60 years to RAF Llandow where as a 10 year old I and my brother aged 9 used to walk the 2 miles from our home to see what The County of Glamorgan RAuxAF Squadron were up to. This was on Saturdays and Sundays as they were weekend warriors

They had F3's at the time and did until they were stood down, not much to go on just one side of the aircraft probably the same the other side.

Coming a bit late to this party. This is English Electric-built Vampire F3 VP768 (RCAF 17067) while serving with No. 438 (Aux) Sqdn., based at St Huberts Quebec in the early '50's. Ended up in Mexico with Escuadrón 200 as F.A.M. 7 and was struck off charge in 1969. Will finish and upload later this week.

I can’t stop flying this lovely Vampire! Only the British would think to make a jet fighter out of a little plywood and balsa egg with tin wings, but it ticks every box for me – small, neat, quirky, iconic, silky smooth, and just made for doing Derry turns in Tower view. I can appreciate the awesome power and raw spectacle of modern fast jets, but it’s the mature ladies that always catch my eye. I’ve heard she has a friend…

I think another first for the Vampire was that it was built and powered by the same company. I can't think of any jet aircraft except the Vampire, Venom and early Comets with airframes and engines made in house.

To continue the Royal Auxiliary Airforce series a 608 squadron Vampire would be very acceptable.

This is Wing Comdr. W. A. Smith's machine from 1956 at RAF Ouston. It bears No. 607 Sqdn. markings on the left side and No. 608's on the right. Still a WIP - I need to get the underside the right colour - but will put up later this week.

de Havilland Vampire FB.52 "VO445" of the Royal Norwegian Air Force. This particular aircraft was the personal mount of Wing Commander Werner H. Christie during the early 1950s. Christie was an ww2 ace, having flown both the Spitfire and Mustang (the later as wing commander of the Hunsdon wing in 1945).

A small detail observation for the panel lines; the top engine cover followed the shape of the wing (and not straight out as in the paintkit). The same goes for the cover latches which got a staggered layout because of the wing contour.

Both are former swiss birds (as most of the Vampire/venoms flying today); LN-DHZ is a T.55/T.11 and LN-DHY is a F.6. Both had Finish AF roundels painted on stickers for an airshow in Finland, they were removed before the trip to Duxford last summer.

hehe... Something special when you straps yourself into the ejection seat of the old lady, sort of like connection with aviation history. The cockpit of the T.55 is very cramped (I seem to remember it was build on the same dimensions as the mosquito and it is a tight fit for 2 MB seats), not to mention the manual ejection procedure. No automatic canopy removal, seat separation or chute opening after ejection. But it feels great in the air, the controls are very harmonic and responsive and it is a joy to fly. The same cannot be said when it is in dirty configuration with everything down... then it turns into a beast..lol. Definitely a lot more work in real life than in FS to land it.
