My missions CTD either when I try to get advanced info from map or when I get near the target to begin to attack. Are there some general guidelines as to what causes to look for?

Hi Highpockets,

I remember having the CTD with the map Screen. I think it can be caused by not having the airbase info in the mission jive with the "Airbases.dat" file.

Hope this helps,
B24Guy

I think I remember reading that somewhere. I will check it out.

The mission crashes when you approach the target. Could it be that some object you placed there causes the problem? Maybe a corrupted dp file?

Problem apparently the .dat files. I used Rami's MTO airbase master list and that fixed it!

Two problems cropped up. Mission "E-boat suppression" in Malta Spitfire gives me a CTD when I begin the attack! Also mission in Malta Spitfire"Lifeboat Protection" cannot locate A/C Alpha Swordfish Taranto. It looks to be properly selected and loaded including weapons.
Rami is going to be pulling out his hair before I get this right! :redf:

Highpockets,

I have no idea why you're having problems with the E-boat suppression mission, but I have a hunch why the Swordfish escort isn't working. The Taranto variant of the Alphasim Swordfish is aliased to the Ark Royal version, specifically the panel. If you are having problems with her, try copying the panel over from the Ark Royal Swordfish variant.

A variation on the principal point of this thread is why the Map does not display properly when requesting Advanced Info even when the airbase.dat and the airbase required by the mission are congruent? I have checked the airbase the mission callls for, say 8042, against the INFO/airbases.dat, and they have the same No. 8042. (I invent the numbers) Yet when one clicks on Advanced Info, you get that blank Pacific Islands screen.

I'm sure I'm missing something important here.

Oh, and I have run the entire string of the airbase.dat to make sure that all airbases are in proper numeric order, ie, no skips or duplicate numbers. Yes I have added several airbases to conform to the updated campaigns but have been meticulous in entering them.

Archive1,

If that's still happening in the mission, then there is something off. I include an MTO "master" airbase.dat file that includes all of the airbases for that specific theatre, and it's universal to all of my reworks within that theatre. If you're using that as your airbase.dat and you are STILL having problems, then we can work on it.

The panel alias fixed the Alpha Swordfish problem, but I am still haveing CTD issues on 6 missions in Malta Spitfire. Some of them seem to be related to some surface object--life boat, submarine, e-boat, airfield attack. They are missions,#9,10, 11, 12, 14 & 15.
Also asked for Beaufighter Mk1C in one of the missions that I did not see in the readme file.

Rami:
I have worked with a starting basic ETO airbases.dat list and added those that are required by each campaign addon that I have downloaded. If we include the BoB, BoE, Battle of France, Battle of the Bulge, 486th, Dora, Gladiators, Mosquitoes, etc in an overall ETO CFS2 file, is there a final, ultimate airbases.dat file that exists somewhere that will work for all? I have tediously tried to make sure that the airbases.dat I use is congruent with each campaign requirement...my bad, perhaps, but am not aware that there is a master ETO list that will conform to all (repeat 'all') of these. Maybe we need a heading for each airbase.dat file that is uploaded to list the campaigns that it is appropriate for. Could cut down on future problems.

BTW - I'm working on updating an ETO GPS that will utilize the newer airbase frequencies...the older europe gps files are no longer appropriated to Achim's airbases. Maybe no one cares about having GPS in a WWII cockpit but I find it interesting to use to fly around Europe. Hey, don't always need to shoot something.

Archive1,
I would imagine that Rami, Jagd, or I have a large ETO airbases.dat file that is pretty comprehensively accurate to all of the added airbases to include all of Achim's newest.

In my case, I just added to Jagd's cfs2_mb_mega_pack files. I then combined the MTO with the ETO to cover all of Europe, thus far, for my MTO install since I fly up to Berlin and over to Ploesti on Tuskegee missions.

I am not sure that there is a limit to number of airbases one can have in the dat file. I have upwards of 300 on mine and everything works fine.

I have found Redwulf's AddRunway program to be outstanding to increase the number of runways in the dat file. MUCH easier than hand editting.

Archive1,

I have a "Master" ETO airfield list that covers both Early and Late ETO theatres, and is good for the Battle of France, Britain, Battle for Europe, Mosquito Squadron, 486 Fighter Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force, Dora and Pfeil and Spitfire, 56th Fighter Group, 357th Fighter Group, A Bridge at Remagen, Battle of the Bulge, Double Trouble, Focke-Wulf Fw-190 Dora, JV 44 Squadron, and Messerschmitt Me-262.

The ones for Operation Frantic and the Tuskegee Airmen are considered special cases because they involve airbases in the Mediterranean and/or Eastern Europe.

For Gladiators, I actually consider that part of the Mediterranean theatre, not Europe, so the airfields for that campaign are found in the MTO "Master" airbase.dat, not Europe.

No hurry!!
I have been scratching my head on these issues and I will be the first to admit that I am #1 amateur regarding understanding how all these items work together or against each other to produce whatever effect there is. :isadizzy:

With help from you and others, I am learning though.

Thanks for your patience!

I think I found the culprit. SU_BF_109F_4 in each mission that CTD. I am working on it. Stay tuned.

Devildog: Have downloaded your file but I have separate MTO/ETO CFS2 installs...but will look at yours. Thank you.

Rami: How do I get your comprehensive ETO master airbase file? I presume it's uploaded somewhere. Could you guide me to it? Not sure which of your links on your page gets me to the airbase file you are referring to...Campaigns, Missions, etc?..or some other. It is clearly the solution to my ETO problem.

Thanks.

Archive1, LOL, I have about 8 CFS2 installs on each of two HDs.......
I have trouble keeping track of all the European; E/W, Mediterranean/North Africa, etc., so I made one big airbases.dat to basically cover North Africa to Scotland and Iceland and east to Russia. That way, I am not hindered in where I can fly escort missions and land in emergencies for fuel to get home again. Due to some really great scenery developers, most airbases refuel us now in CFS2.

Also, every now and again, in freeflight, I do around the world flights with Corsairs or other longer legged aircraft. Amazing what wild hairs will make one do!

The SU_BF_109_F apparently was not the culprit after reinstalling. Havng some other issues as well such as not getting off the ground in mission 10 and showing "mission failed" screen. Same issue with mission 9 as well.
Think I will rest a while and let Rami see what he can find when he gets time. I have had little to no trouble with other mission installs.

I think I have gone back over everything in the readme instructions.
