im looking for information about a couple who were killed in a mid air plane collision in alaska this year (2011),dad told me about it sometime ago,dont remember when,,the two pilots were a man and woman,fairly young,they were an unmairried couple,supposedly were talking on the radio and hit mid air and crashed....my dad is convinced its john ponts and the blonde girl he was dating from flying wild alaska,,,the era air pilots..its true john ponts hasnt made an appearance ive seen,,not sure about the girl,,they did talk about ponts father dying,but that was a flashback ,,

does anyone know of the crash my dad keeps talking about?....hes sure it was them and we cant watch that show without him telling me all about what he read,,,over and over and over and over........OMG....please help??

There were three midair collisions this year. Two resulted in fatalities. The other one was a family (parents and children). No Era airplane pilots were involved in any of these midair collisions.

thanks..maybe now i can watch flying wild alaska without my dad telling me it was ponts and his girlfriend everytime

Era has had two accidents this year. One of them was even caught on a NOAA webcam!

Sounds like the guy attempted a maneuver similar to a "canopy roll" where an aircraft ascends and rolls inverted over the other plane, coming down on the opposite side. Maybe he didn't include the roll but it's an unsafe maneuver in any event. I recall an A-6 Intruder pilot that attempted a canopy roll over his wingman on a low-level in Washington state. He didn't hit the other aircraft but lost control and dug a hole in the ground. Not much room for error or disorientation at 500 ft off the deck.
