View Full Version : Simtech DO-335 port to FSX looking for other liveries

Recently Tom Wood did a FSX patch to his Dornier DO-335 that works just
great in FSX. I am looking for additional liveries that would be compatible
with his patch. He did a Dornier 335 final for FS-9 for which his FSX patch is
based on. Now I am looking for other liveries that would work. I have found
some others but the textures are not compatible at all. When I try to alter
the Acft.cfg file I get a skeletal looking plane.

. . . . . . .When I try to alter

Can you post a pic of what "skeletal" looks like?

Its just a pilot sitting on a seat and a few ribs of the plane showing and no outside
skin what so ever, rotating round and round. I have remove it from both acft.cfg and the texture . I still have the files it just
that is looks like do-do and so I removed it. There is no preview generic thumbnail (blank with question mark) either.
The texture files are different then whats in the basic texture. I tried to play around with the basic AFCT.CFG file (there wasn't and
Acft.cfg info to cut and paste to the basic Acft.cfg) so I made duplicate of 1st one and for texture entry I put the name of the texture
(number) I think its the textures that are incompatible but I may be wrong.

A few different causes come to mind. One is that the alpha channels for the exterior textures are so dark that they have caused the textures to go transparent. The other could be, as you say, that the textures aren't compatible, although I've never seen what you describe being related to texture types.

This is what I am talking about:

Also there was no info with instructions on adding to acft.cfg so I cut and paste
original, re-numbered it and I get skin and bones. It was part of a pack of
repaints that original author TOM WOOD make for this plane. Weird that there
were no instructions, just additional textures. Now who is this Morton guy that I hear
of? I heard he has/had some repaints for the Simtech version and I have not
located any of his posts here.

That looks very much like an alpha channel problem. If you have DXTbmp, load one of the external fuselage textures and see what the alpha looks like. I have a feeling it must be almost solid black for this to be happening. Also, change your "ui_variation" for the second livery, it shows to be the same as the original.

Looks to be the problem all textures are black. Now what? Can this be
edited or changed over to something that will work. Also, I'm looking
for Mortons repaints on this addon. Have you heard of them/him?

What do I change the UI variation entry to read?

Thanks

For the variation, you can name it anything you like, just needs to be different than the first one. Usually it's the name of the Livery (ie; Winter Camo) or the Squadron name.

As for the alpha, take a look at the image below. Enlarge your DXTbmp window so that the options under the alpha window are visible. Running your cursor over the options will tell you what you can do. Really, for both the interior and exterior, I wouldn't have anything other than white for the alpha and there is an option under the alpha window that lets you reset the alpha channel, which will make it white, then just save the texture as either a DXT3 or 32bit (what I use) and that should make a difference in what you see in the sim.

Thanks Falcon409,

That little program did the trick. As much of a pita as it was to change each and
every .bmp file over to a white alpha, then save it to a DXT3 format. I had about
5 liveries to do. But I got 'er done as Larry the cable guy would say.

At first, I had a bit of a problem completely understanding your directions for the
conversion process then my son read your instructions and found all the tabs
dials and knobs to twiddle to make it happen. After that, I took over and did the
rest of 'em. It was a slow and monotonous process.
