OK i am a newbie here and have noticed the stock CFS2 airbase leaves alot to be desired. I want to see parked aircraft in the revetments, more and better buildings etc. is there a freeware download out there that improves the general look of the airbases and makes them more authentic?

thanks,
dawg

Dawg: Most authors won't include parked aircraft on their bases unless they are part of a specific MB Mission layout... you'll have to place them yourself in MB. Most will also not include ships or AA guns either - they won't fire and they won't sink.

For a simple solution, place some of the excellent trees and library objects available wherever you wish in MB and save it as a Mission. The harder, more technical way is to open the CFS2 scenery GSL into a gob and then a layout and modify it according to Martin Wright's instructions and tools and save. That's a complicated process I won't detail here.

Dawg,

Remember that CFS2 was originally released in 2000, and the computers then available were "stone age," even compared to what many of us are using now. Heck, even Windows XP wasn't released until 2001.

If you would like improvements on the stock bases, a fellow named dog1 created updated versions of many of the stock bases. I will provide the links for you below, the rest will begin your learning curve.

Well, for the Pacific...MaskRider, Xavierb, Ardnt, and Pen32Win. The only problem is that they are kind of a hodgepodge that cover some of the stock bases, while others do not.

I just didn't want to load on too much, too soon, you know?

The great thing about CFS2 is how you can customise the world you fly in.
The mission builder is great for laying out static aircraft or placing scenery objects in places you want to see them, later you can find out how to use it to add to the scenery you see in free flight and quick combat.

Later you can grab a copy of Flight Simulator Scenery Creator (FSSC at http://fssc.avsim.net/downloads.html and a copy of Maskrider's blended scenery tutorial and create your own bases.

i remodeled all the stock CFS2 bases from scratch using all the best materials available,
the list of the items used clearly indicates who they were developed by.The stock bases were disgusting not to mention the objects which were CFS1 stuff.The rework is FPS friendly as well.From there the list mentioned above by Rami such as maskriders add on bases which are not the default bases and a few more by PenW32.Truk is fun and you will enjoy setting up some bombing missions.Having said that if you do the above your CFS2 becomes a diferent ball game all together.Have fun:salute:

Thanks Rami! That's okay, no big rush...Downloaded and installed....no errors! woohoo! So I installed Espiritu Santo Base...to the letter....get 2 errors there which I don't get since they are both installed in the aircraft folder:

can't find model corsair_fold
can't find model corsair_static

Do you have any thoughts on this type error?

Supe,

To be perfectly honest, I haven't a clue. However, the Pacific is not one of my strong suits. Perhaps one of our more esteemed Pacific colleagues can answer your question?

That's from a package with aircraft with folded wings - I forget who the author is. Anybody? I recommend you double check your instal instructions.

Here is corsair_fold etc by the venerable B-24 guy:

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/page.php?lloc=downloads&loc=downloads&page=info&FileID=4634

I (http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/page.php?lloc=downloads&loc=downloads&page=info&FileID=4634)n the corsair_fold folder there are three types:

[fltsim.0]
title=corsair_fold
sim=corsair_fold
model=
panel=\..\..\F4U1A_Corsair\panel
sound=\..\..\F4U1A_Corsair\sound
texture=\..\..\F4U1A_Corsair\texture

[fltsim.1]
title=corsair_fold_eng
sim=corsair_folde
model=
panel=\..\..\F4U1A_Corsair\panel
sound=\..\..\F4U1A_Corsair\sound
texture=\..\..\F4U1A_Corsair\texture

[fltsim.3]
title=corsair_static
sim=corsair_static
model=\..\..\F4U1A_Corsair\model
panel=\..\..\F4U1A_Corsair\panel
sound=\..\..\F4U1A_Corsair\sound
texture=\..\..\F4U1A_Corsair\texture

thats correct,i used the B24 guy static corsair sets he devevloped years ago for my carrier static sceneries including espiritu santo and port moresby.
Its all in the install instructions,however i suspect the files reorganization which took place at Simouthouse a couple of years ago could have caused some broken links.

After making your new airbase in the Mission Builder, be sure to save it as a layout file. That way you can use it again and again without having to rebuild it.

If it turns out to be a good one, upload it like Rami has just done with several of his as well as Canion's nice train station terminal that has just popped up in the download queue.

I keep a library of generic layout files complete with a screen shot of them for use in later projects. It's a fast and easy way to build nice looking scenery for your missions.

Here is a quick demo on making or modifying a layout file. With the MB tools, you can make most layouts fit what ever you are doing and also make them fit in different places. Instructions are in the screen shots below.

Finished!

Now all you have to do is to click on your Layout icon (Top-right on the MB toolbar) and save.

Here are some shots of layout files that I use over and over.
