Just copy the aircraft's folder(s) to the Aircraft folder in MAW. Any special weapons or pylons would also need to be copied to the Weapons or Pylons folders in MAW.

Here's AH's Boomerang in maw, just do what hairyspin said. Or You can use the AH's autoinstaller, just point it to Maw, every thing will fall into place except the weapons. After installing go to the weapons folder and at the bottom you will find c13 drop tank files, make a new folder name it c13_droptank_318L. cut and paste the c13 drop tank files into it. You should be good to go.

I have as well, but it's still a great aircraft. Has anyone made any skins for it, I think I saw one a while ago here.

Not that I know of - it's an extremely difficult aircraft to skin correctly, as the parts... well, don't really line up, and are composed of lots of bits. I gave up, and I've skinned some horrifying models in my time.

Hi gosd,
you must be missing some gauge textures in the Aircraft/Shared folder. If you have an M3D editor, you can take a look at the m3d files for the boomerang, and see what textures are specified. Then look in the Boomerang's folder, and the Shared folder in the Aircraft root folder, to try and find the requisite textures. I'd post the textures myself, but I'm not on my cfs3 'puter (I keep it unable to go online, so it stays germ free!)

HTH,
David

ndicki is quite correct! This one is a struggle and will take some time, but I intend to do some repaints, so please be patient :wavey:

Release a template if you manage to get a nice base for skins, I'd like to do a few too.

...Hooray!! I wuz hoping some brave soul(s) would take on the task of doin' some skins for the Boomer! IMHO she sorely needs some weathering... some wear and tear and all that sort of rot an aircraft acquires in battle... peeling paint -patched bullet holes -claw marks -boo boos... I wonder... It seems a bare metal version would be cool.
I seem to recall seeing one somewhere. :applause::icon29:

I'm using photos from the net to draw the panel and rivit lines (along with some 'artistic license'). As ndicki stated, there are some strange distortions with this model. However, the Aeroplane Heaven Boomerang is an all around outstanding model and the c'pit is spot on!

I don't have experience with weathering, so my paints are usually "museum" quality. However, if ndicki or Bravo4 want to weather my skins (when they're done...?) I would be very honored! Hang in there with me and be patient :salute:.

The file you are missing is:ah_spit1_guages.dds it's the same file as ah_spit1_gauges.dds but the mispelling is in the cockpit0.m3d file.

From Wikipedia:

Two of the first three operational Boomerang units, No. 83 Squadron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No._83_Squadron_RAAF) and No. 85 Squadron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No._85_Squadron_RAAF), were used for home defence. No. 84 Squadron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No._84_Squadron_RAAF)was deployed to Horn Island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horn_Island_Airport#World_War_II) in Torres Strait (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torres_Strait) and Dutch New Guinea (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_New_Guinea) (West Papua), in an attempt to address the continuing shortage of fighters in this area. The squadron was only modestly successful however. The Boomerang's low top speed and poor high altitude performance meant that No. 84 Squadron could drive off enemy attacks but rarely get close enough to Japanese aircraft to bring their guns to bear. On the only occasion when a Boomerang did close with a Japanese aircraft, its guns jammed. Fortunately, there were not many air raids in this area, and after using Boomerangs for eight months No. 84 Squadron upgraded to the Kittyhawk.
The Boomerang found its real use as a close support (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Close_air_support) aircraft. In contrast to Europe or North Africa, the ground war in the jungles of the south-west Pacific was, in broad terms, a series of small unit actions fought at very close quarters by widely dispersed forces with no clear front lines. It was here that the Boomerang found its niche: as close to the troops on the ground as possible.
It had the range to go wherever it was needed (usually the aircraft were based close to the area of ground operations), heavy armament by the standards of the day and, because it was easier to fly than most fighters, the pilot could get in close to the objective and have time to concentrate on the ground forces. Sprightly low-level handling helped avoid ground fire and rough terrain and the unusually extensive armour plating protected pilots. In addition, the aircraft's simple wood and aluminium airframe proved capable of absorbing battle damage. Nonetheless, several of the aircraft were shot down, including two accidental kills by US units,[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)] and more were damaged during landing accidents, as the Boomerang was prone to ground looping (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground_loop_(aviation)).
No. 4 Squadron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No._4_Squadron_RAAF) and No. 5 Squadron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No._5_Squadron_RAAF) flew Boomerangs in New Guinea, the Solomon Islands Campaign (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solomon_Islands_Campaign) and Borneo Campaign (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borneo_Campaign_(1945)), also in the close support role, with marked success. Flying in pairs (one to observe the ground, the other to observe the air around them), their tasks included bombing, strafing, close infantry support and artillery spotting. When attacking larger enemy formations Boomerangs often operated in conjunction with larger aircraft. In this role the Boomerang would get in close to confirm the identity of the target and mark it with a 20 lb (9 kg) smoke bomb with the "cooperating" aircraft delivering the major ordnance from a safer distance. The partnership between 5 Squadron Boomerangs and Royal New Zealand Air Force (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_New_Zealand_Air_Force) Corsair (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F4U_Corsair) fighter bombers during the Bougainville Campaign (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bougainville_Campaign) was said to be particularly effective.
The other user of Boomerangs in New Guinea was No. 8 Communications Unit, which used the aircraft to assist with air sea rescue (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_sea_rescue) operations.

Well.....ndicki definitely was not kidding!!!!:mixedsmi:

I'll have about 10 skins within the next few.....months(?). There are some "interesting" texture alignment issues which I hope everyone can live with. Otherwise these should be passable representations of this rather obscure WWII fighter.

...sorta like a PTO pathfinder, huh? Its seems there were /was a good variety of types in ground support related roles that found themselves bouncing about all around those South Pacific jungles... and thanx so very much Maj.Magee, I always find your posts quite uniquely interesting and enlightening. :ernae:

I used color samples from online sites. Due to lighting and artist suggestions, colors vary. Which is more accurate:

The paler green on QEA?
The darker green on QEH?
Something in between the two?

Hi Guys,

There is a skin already released, Jimmy Christie has released a nice set some time ago now, and their fine renditions of several historic planes. As mentioned the plane is a hard one to repaint, using multipal texture sheets as opposed to the usual single sheet were used to. there is also a hard coded specular shine built into the model that makes it hard to get a feel for colours.

Phrog Phixer, nice work mate, love the Aussie pilot figure.

Aeroplane Heaven have kindly allowed for their Boomerang to be modified and included with the soon to be released Rising Sun.

It has new effects and weapons included, a revision of the smoke marking bomb (ETO) has been made up to represent the smoke marking bombs used by the RAAF to mark targets for heavies.

The included texture is for the plane described below. (has its base in Jimmie's work)

regards Rob.

I need to finish some details. I also have new .xdp files with modded AvHistory weapons and lighting on my install, which I imagine would need permissions to upload....hopefully sometime this month?
