If you've been involved with FS9 for any length of time, you should know the name Mike Stone. Several years ago, he retired from FS development and got into model ship building. Now he's back into FS and is once again building new aircraft. His original site is back up with just about all of his originals, plus a couple of new items. So if you saved your old bookmark in hopes that he would be back, go click it now! For everyone else, heres the link:

First two "big birds" up and flying. These are some fun designs, Mike.:applause: I have one caveat, however. If I promise never to talk about rivets, will you promise never to fuss at my shockwave light placement?:icon_lol:

Fictional planes are so much fun as there aren't as many rules for tweaker dudes to break.

One of my VA members mentioned that Mike's site was back up yesterday. I just shrugged because his site has been back up for quite a while now but with pictures of all his model ships he built. It wasn't until just now I saw Tom's post and thought, what the heck is he doing posting it in this Forum. I posted the link in the hobby section a few months ago.
Mike is a regular on our group flights over at Transload and I could tell he was getting the itch back to develop for FS again. I started getting e-mails from him with his new concept planes while I was working out of town. I still haven't had a chance to load them up. Glad to see he went public again.
Welcome back Mike!:applause:

This is really happy news! I hope Mr. Stone finds great enjoyment renewing his flightsim interests. We've lost so many talented creators in recent years, I'm hoping his return may spark a trend.

A toast to renewal!

I've always had a soft spot for his concepts, along with a love for the uber-jumbo heavies, so I think my new favorite may well be the new Lift King!

I'm a Brit, so it has to be his Twin Pin (especially with the new sounds available at Britsim) - but it was a tough call, as Mike has made so many classics over the years; his Fokker 27 is still the only game in town!

Sunny9850

Second that. The most amazing "Unsuccessful Aircraft" Burt Rutans Starship.
Many of Mike's works have been surpassed during his retirement by newer models with the, for me at least, must have VC, but some like the Fokker F27 / FH 227 are still really the only good fare in town.
And with creative people stuffing very advanced 2D panels and simulations into the aircraft they are very enjoyable to fly even for a VC addict like me.

I am glad to see Mike back and hope that he will get the respect he deserves for his contributions to the hobby this time around.

He has always been quite clear about what he will and will not do. And the fact that nobody is being forced to use his creations in any way.
Download them or don't. Use them or don't. Use them as AI or for player aircraft......it's all good. Just don't complain about something you got for free.

I did notice that his disclaimer is actually a bit more, shall we say relaxed this time around. Good for him. No reason to let a few bad apples spoil the entire barrel.

My favorite model Mike made is the Twin Pioneer. Particularly after having enjoyed a pleasure flight in the 1:1 scale Twinpin G-APRS at Coventry, England, some years ago. :jump:

Thanks Mike! Your Twinpin brings always great memories to this wee giant.

Cheers,
Maarten
