Guess I won't be buying the download then.

Not sure what the benefit to VS is from selling the boxed version rather than the download, but hopefully there is one as otherwise it seems odd that they'd charge the same for less with the download version.

Personally I would have preferred both the boxed and download versions to be the same and they charged for an extra paint pack; I tend to buy most of my aircraft as downloads, but 20 paints is a lot to turn down just for an instant download.

On the question of why, perhaps it was to save 200 megs on the download size. Offering something on CD that is near a Gig of data is easier then selling a Gig download. Think, if 50 people bought this, the amount of data transfer that would be on the server(s). But if its down to 200 megs.... Its more 'realistic'. I am sure the would offer those repaints on the side as an additional download. This is my thoughts, probably wrong, but just thinking in a rational direction of 'why'.

Same reason I do not have a ton of repaints on my Dynamic. Saving massive download sizes... Some people still have slow internet providers and they freak if its 100 megs or more.

I guess it will take quite some time before the boxed version will be available in the Netherlands, if at all. The other option would be purchasing the box as a mail-order(which will cost me an extra mail-fee).

In order to make a decision which i will purchase (e.g. box or download): Can you provide a list of what paints are included in the boxed version?

Edit: what i have seen so far, this bird looks amazing! If the same quality as the F9F is matched, i'll be a very happy customer.

Perhaps a bit OT, and absolutely not meant in a negative way of any kind, but....

A boxed version concerns burning and labeling disks, as well as printing booklets and boxes. A boxed version will require a separate download-section for patches (when updates need to be published), since it is a rather static release. They also comprehence shipping to retailers (when not ordered by Vertigo directly) who also want a piece of the pie. How does this make it cost-effective, and how does it make the difference between 6 or 26 liveries?
A small disclaimer here; i know a lot (by profession) about military in general, military (aviation) history, navigation, mapping etc. But i know almost nothing about commercial trading.

I sincerely hope Vertigo gives a big motivation to pull me over the fence to buy boxed instead of download. As you might already have noticed with the great F9F; i'll make my own repaints if and when i need them anyway (shared or not).

One way or another, i sure am on the lookout for this great bird! A real winner IMHO!

Hi Deano, the question was merely out of interest.
Since i'm a potential customer, it seems i have no say whatsoever in "how Vertigo does business" at all, but that does not bother me a bit.
I was just curious where and how the decision was made between the two different delivery methods and their contents.
It was not meant as an offence (against you or Vertigo).

I hope you still want to list up the liveries that will be included in the boxed version (i seem to have failed finding them at the Vertigo website)?

yep, after chatting with one of the beta testers this morning, im happy to fight over the CC with mrs

from the testers point of view its a good model and FDE , not sure if its bump mapping is going to be the same as previous models, but thats easy to fix
