had a couple of days off from this board, spending lots of time in the paint shed:

Dornier DO-27B-3, c/n 401
German Airforce
'JA+901' of JG 72 / JaBoG 43
Repaint only for the Digital Aviation/Aerosoft Do-27 (payware).
Starting in 1957, Germany's armed forces received a total of 428 Do-27 aircraft. Two main variants were delivered:
Do-27A (single steering, observer), 322 built,
Do-27B (double steering, trainer), 106 built.
Increased weight, modified avionics, wider gear and bigger tires led to different sub-versions (A-1 to A-5, B-1 to B-5).
The Do-27 primarily was used as observer aircraft for the German Army ("Heeresflieger"), but several Navy and Air Force units also used it for training and liasion purposes.
This repaint depicts the trainer-yellow JB+901 (c/n 401) of Jagdgeschwader 72 (Fighter Wing).
JG 72 was put into service in 1959, based at Oldenburg and equipped with Canadair Sabre Mk.6 aircraft. In 1964, this unit was transformed into JaBoG 43 (Jagdbombergeschwader / Fighter-Bomber Wing), from 1967 on fitted with Fiat G.91 with the unit renamed into LeKG 43 (Leichtes Kampfgeschwader).
Until 1968, Luftwaffe's aircraft codes were unit-based with the letters representing the unit the aircraft was assigned to. Regardless the specific aircraft type, all aircraft of JG 72 wore the "JB+..." code.
Before serving with JG 72, this aircraft was used by the "Fluganwaerterregiment" (training unit), as "AC+959". When JG 72 / JaBoG 43 later on was renamed to LeKG 43, this aircraft's code was changed to 'MC+901'.
In 1968, Luftwaffe changed its aircraft lettering standard into type-based codes with the first two digits 55, 56 and 57 standing for the Do-27. Regardless the unit servicing with, this aircraft consistently was coded as '56+92'.
After drawn out of service, c/n 401 has been overhauled in the beginning of 1990 by Conrado Dornier and was donated to the Deutsche Lufthansa Stiftung-Berlin in airworthy condition. It's still going strong today as D-EDNU with Lufthansa Heritage Flight, serving as trainer for Lufthansa's Ju-52 crews:
