I saw on You Tube that a Me-109D/E was raised from a lake in Russia, it was built in 1939, the pictures of it in a hangar it appears to be in almost perfect condition.

That would be a 109E. The 109D was already generally withdrawn from frontline service at the time Barbarossa started in June 1941, with the Bf-109F being used as 'spearhead' and the later 109E models in the ground support role.

Thank you for that. It is astounding to recover those aircrafts after 60+ years.
I believe the Me is a 109 E7.

Built: September 1939 by Arado GmbH at Warnemunde This aircraft was built as an E1 variant and upgraded to an E-7 standard in 1942.
