hey guys, can someone please help me out here, when i try to crash land on fsx, as soon as the aircraft hits the ground it freezes and says crash, even if you do it real gently it still says crash, i used to have cfs3 and you could do it on that, does anyone know how to do it on fsx?

I think you can do it with A2A's Accusim planes, (I seem to recall belly landing the B-17)

Regards,
Ian.

thanks for your help man, i'll see if it will work :ernae:

thanks ian, the b17 does it. i reckon that there's probly something in the aircraft cfg of other planes that doesn't let them do that

thanks,:ernae:

Turn off your crash detection in the sim.

the only problem with turning detect crashes off is that the aircraft doesn't stop sliding and doesn't lose speed on the ground, the aircraft that i used was vladimir z's c123 provider

I was able to belly land captain sim's c130j

The way A2A do it is to add entries for floats in the [contact_points] section of the aircraft.cfg

If you look in your FSX logbook with something like the FSX Logbook Editor
logbookedit-0411062225.zip at Avsim
you should notice that any flights in the B17 or other A2A planes that can be ditches are listed as Amphibian rather than Fixed Wing

The Lotus Simulations L-39 allows you to belly land, but I don't think the plane will be damaged like the A2A Simulations planes.

I think the ability to crash land or belly land a plane depends on if the aircraft.cfg file has scrape points in the contact point section. If you have no scrape points then you will sink into the terrain and crash. If you have scrape points you will be able to slide on them if you touch down gently.

One of the problems I had with adding scrape points to a plane was it would belly land and shortly after stopping it would pop back up on the gear. I was never actually sure why it did it.

Damage models have to be built into the aircraft and also damaged parts along with effects. Most do not bother along with LOD models as the file size can be prohibitive.

Not necessarly required
Our Fw190 belly lands with normal contact points, just made harder.

As mentioned, the contact points section in the cfg file is the controlling section. There must be enough of them, properly located to support the aircraft more or less in a realistic manner on the surface. Then the FPS impact values need to be correct (about like landing gear) and you have to not exceed them. Floats can act as scrape points as well, I have landed float planes on FSX grass many times. Adding floats properly could also allow you to ditch....

That's right. You need to add floats lines to cnt pt section. You need to place one forward to support the nose and 1 under (and slightly behind) each inner engine, or for single engine, where the wheels would be if they were lowered, only further apart. 3 float pts should do for all ac, even the 747.

You will get sparks from floats. But you can change effects to 'dirt=fx_tchdrt.boo',
'concrete=fx_sparks.boo', and 'touchdown=fx_tchdwn_sboo, 1.boo' to not get any. (The 'x.boo' extension trick is originally by Bill Lyons.). I lost a fs drive and lost cfg with the exact layout for 737 and 747 cnt pts or I would post here to give you a rough idea. Trial & error them. Not critical unless you dive bomb it on nose.

so, if i was to try and modify vladimir z's c123( and not upload it anywhere without his permission), how exactly do i add contact points in the cfg???

Belly landed lots of retractable gear aircraft and not on purpose  never thought it was an issue. :icon_lol:

holdzy19,
Sorry for the delay. I FINALLY got around to downloading and installing then tweaking ZH's C-123 cnt pts so as to allow 'smooth' (ie: no 'issues') belly landings. Now I did this in FS9 but it should work in FSX. Try them. Let me know how they work for you. There is one set for belly landings only and one set for water landings. Have to use 'either/or' but not both so you 'comment out' (with '//') one set. OK? OK! Have fun.

You can use the unregistered version of Airwrench to edit contact points. When I am editing them I will check the box to put a light in the same place to give me a visual reference of where the contact point is. Once I get done I remove or comment out the lights.
