Last week I had to replace my computer after the mother board died.

It was a cheaper option to buy a new tower than replace the mother board.

Now I'm reinstalling the flight sim (FS 2004) and other associated programs.

Here's the basic details of the new system ....

Processor - Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5400 @ 2.70GHz
Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB
Graphics Intel(R) G41 Express Chipset (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1)
Gaming graphics 1550 MB Total available graphics memory
Primary hard disk 420GB Free (466GB Total)
Windows 7 Home Premium

Compared with the old computer ......

Compaq Presario SR5060+
AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ 2.0Ghz
250Gb Serial ATA 7200 HD
1024Mb DDR2 ( expandable up to 4.0Gb )
Microsoft Vista Home Premium - Vista version 32bit OS
Initial - NVidia GeForce 7500LE 3D PCI-Express Graphics with 256Mb DDR2 video memory
Replaced with - NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT

My question is regarding the graphics cards ....

Which is a better one for the sim .....

The new one
Graphics Intel(R) G41 Express Chipset (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1)

Or the older one ....
NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT

Currently I'm fiddling with the FS9 cfg to try and get the scenery sharper and remove the fuzzy distant images.

Thanks for your help and advice.

Pete.

I take it the first option is the on-board video chipset that uses some of the system RAM? If so, option 2 is the better option as it has a dedicated GPU (graphics processing unit), it's own RAM, and frees up the full 4gig of system RAM for Win 7 and FS9.

Your nVidia 9500 GT is light years ahead of the onboard G41 and, as mentioned, will not use anywhere near as much system RAM...Don
