I was using Pixia a free paint program on my old pc. I have tried to get the new version to work but it says that it does not work on a 16 by 256 enviornment? the paint program is Pixia.

Bob,

I was introduced to 2 free paint programs this week when people were trying to help me get a Photoshop file opened. If Pixia will not work on your new rig, you might check out

Paint.net (actually a pretty nice program) http://www.getpaint.net/download.html

GIMP http://www.gimp.org/

Both seem to have pretty strong user groups, help etc.

Maybe one of these would work for you?

Hey Bob,

Is your screen set to display 16 Bit as opposed to 32 bit colours?

The Gimp is an excellent program, free, and works well in Windows 7.

Hi Bob,

I'm not 100% sure if this is the cause of the problem (I'm using Windows XP) but have a look and see if your computer is displaying anything other than 32 Bit:

Look under the 'Set the color for an LCD monitor' or 'Set the color for a CRT monitor' headings, depending on your monitor type.

System Requirements on Pixia's homepage:

Fellows this is what I am running, True color 32 bit 1440 by 900 at 75 hertz. It still tells me that it can`t run 16 by 256. I should be able to run Pixia with this set up.

Hey Bob,

If you download and install Phierha do you also get the same error?

Would running in compatibility mode not help?

There is a bit of information for Windows 7 users at the bottom of the Pixia homepage.
