Watching the news this evening, I was not surprised by the fact that they mentioned that it was the 150th anniversary of the shots that began the Civil War, when the Confederate forces fired on Fort Sumter, occurring on April 12th, 1861...
...yet they failed to mention that it was also the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's first orbital flight around the earth in Vostok 1, which occurred on April 12th, 1961. If you ask me, this was also a pivotal event in world history. I also find it to be an amazing synergy that these events happened on the same day, one century apart.
Anyhoo...that's the history geek in me.
