I don't know how many times I've started this quest, got a few things loaded, got sidetracked and never went back to it, but I'm determined now to get everything loaded and setup so that when the urge hits me, I can just start flying rather than looking all over the community for directions, lol.

I want to get setup to fly Carrier Ops using current Carrier types (no WWII or WWI Ops please). What will I need to have a good setup?:salute:

Hi Falcon,

Stupid question from my side: when you say "Carrier Ops" with capital letters, are you referring to some precise payware product or are you just referring to the usual, generic term for performing aircraft carrier operations in FSX ?

Also, do you have Acceleration or not ?

Yea, I wasn't referring to any payware title. . .I just want to get setup with whatever default/freeware Carriers and utilities there are available so that I can start practicing traps and launches at my leisure and know that when I load a flight, I won't suddenly find that something is missing or I don't have everything I need. Yes I do have Accel, however I will not be using the Hornet. Don't even have it installed any more. . .I have the Vertigo F9F, the FJ-1 Fury and several other early jets that I'll use.

You don't have the Hornet anymore ?
That's quite bad, because:
- it's a good plane
- it gets a REALLY good plane once the Sludge Hornet freeware mod is installed
- it is used in several tutorials/missions included in Acceleration

But ok, I guess it's not critical if you have the VRS as a replacement :D

However, here is a basic list of what you will need:
- Windows up to date with Java runtimes
- recent version of FSIUPC, freeware is enough
- AI Carriers 2
- Nimitz/Ike version 2 from Javier

AI Carriers 2 should be available on flightsim.com or simviation.com, same for the Javier Nimitz.

lol, Nope don't have (or want) the VRS either, lol:salute:

Aside from that though, I appreciate the information Daube, I know in the past I have seen threads like this that went on and on for pages with so much information as to be overwhelming in scope (and this may still become that, lol). Your suggestions are all I really need, as this will get me up and running and able to practice at my own pace without any problems or wondering if I have everything required.

Thanks!!

All of what Daube said + this is a nice one too. Korean era perfect for the F9F.

I don't know if you know this or not but the Vertigo Studios F9F must be reloaded in the sim after each trap, until the patch is released.

If you are looking for a tutorial I found a good one here...

Just wanted to add that Dino Cattaneo's T-45 is a good plane for what you are looking to do here. It is beautifully made, and the Nimitz/Ike v2 package has a specific T-45 training configuration, so the static planes on deck will match what you are flying. The fact that it is freeware doesn't hurt either.

I also guess you are probably looking for US stuff only, but the French Clemenceau carrier available on FS Shipyards is another beautifully made model in case that interests you.

Just be careful, fleet building with AI Carriers can be addictive hehe. I recently built one just to see if I could.. 34 ships, 10 carriers of many nationalities and eras lol.. quite ridiculous, but very cool to fly over.

we are about to complete an AI Ark Royal, for harrier and Helo use. No traps or catapults though

That looks excellent Gaffer, and much needed. As far as I know Abacus' HMS Illustrious is the only "ramped deck" RN carrier.. Yours will be most welcomed. Thank you for the WIPs

. . .and I assume that would be in the readme somewhere. . .which almost no one reads, lol.:salute:

By the way, the link takes me to a blank page.:salute:. . . .Fixed. . .an excellent tutorial. . .thanks for the link!!

Everything seems to be working, except launches, lol. Using the launch config Nimitz, taxi to the launch area, set brakes, attach the launch bar, full flaps, increase to full mil (the blast ramp never comes up and there is no steam and no cat launch). . .when I release brakes it never gets above 60 knots before I'm over the edge and in the water. eject, eject, eject!!:salute:

Hey Falcon,

Did you arm with Shift+I, and Shift+Space for takeoff, I set up all the nessesary triggers on my joystick to make it easier.

See ya, Rockitglider

Which plane are you using? Some, even ones with a hook do not have launch assist settings in the aircraft.cfg

And I have to ask the obvious.. are you hitting Shift+I? (Default for "Launch Assist arm/disarm") *** I see Rockitglider beat me to this question :)

Dino's Goshawk:salute:

No. . . . .and it would be obvious to someone who has been familiarized with launch procedures, but not someone who hasn't done them since FS9. I'm programming the required keystrokes to my joystick. . .thanks.:salute:

Ok, my thanks to Daube, gradyhappyg, stormtrooper271, W. Bleddyn and Rocketglider for the assistance in getting this up and running. I don't know if this info is stickied anywhere, but I'm going to make up a readme that I'll post in the download section just for reference when someone else asks these questions. I know there have been numerous threads on the subject, the problem is that many of them are so lengthy you can get lost in the bulk of information.

Thanks again all!!:salute:

No problem,in fact after talking the talk got the fever to walk the walk. Spent the night booming and zooming of the coast of Korea.

Nice shots. . .I love the F9F but I didn't know about the faulty tailhook. Hope they get a fix up soon, but in the meantime I guess it isn't such a big deal to reload after each trap.:salute:

Glad to see you could figure out all the possible issues and already made some successful launches, Falcon :)
Now back to training ^^
