Good afternoon to all; This will be wordy..sorry. I'm computer challenged..really. I ranch, deep winter is my only playtime on the computer,so I know nothing. The Operating system is Windows XP,with a Intel GMA accelerator driver.set at 32 bit,1440 x900 screen resolution,60hz refresh rate. I don't have any problems loading the stock game(5 yr.old version),but it's sort of lame and I get hosed up when I start adding on stuff out of boredum. What I'd like to do is: 1. Load cfs3 with current patches/fixes.2.add mission builder.3.add the eto expansion(if possible) offered by the folks at AussieX.I like shooting down bombers.Scenarios like the Battle of Britain or the bombing campaign over Germany, would tickle me plenty. Any advice is appreciated so long as it's simple,Thanks to all who give their time and talents.. Times are tight here, the only donation I can make would be to our local food bank in the websites name. I'm not versed in protocol. Do we communicate via this thread? Thanks and Happy Trails.

This wonderful forum is quite free of charge and as for modding CFS3, you've come to the right place. All the amazingly talented artists here base their work on the protocol of freeware, so dig in and d0n't worry!:wavey:

Hi Muddobber,

I've just replied to your other thread at the AussieX forum here: http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/topic/7281-cfs3-help-im-lost/

:kilroy:Muddobber, hello and welcome.

Let's get you straightened out.

You have XP, so this will be easy.

I am assuming that you installed CFS3 to the defauklt location.

1. Follow this pathway on your computer: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games and delete the entire Combat Flight Simulator 3 main game folder.

2. Then follow this pathway: C:\Documents and Settings\User Name(your name)\Application Data\Microsoft. In this folder, look for a folder named Combat Flight Simulator 3.0 and delete it.

Note: The Application Data folder is normally a hidden folder, so you may have to make it so you can see it. Look at the Windows brower menu in the upper left-hand corner and click the TOOLS tab. Choose Folder Options from the little drop-down menu. Click the View tab. Look for where it says "Hidden files and folders" and tick the little circle where it say "Show hidden files and folders". Also un-check the little box where it says "Hide extensions for known file types". Then click on the Apply button and OK.

Before you re-install CFS3, get the two Updates, 3.1 and 3.1a from here: http://www.microsoft.com/Games/combatfs3/

Get the CFS3 Mission Builder while you're at it.

Look at the menu on the left side of the home page, and click DOWNLOADS.

Look for the two Updates and download both.

3. Now install CFS3 and fly it once, then exit.

4. Install the 3.1 Update. Fly CFS3 once now, and exit again.

5. One more time. Install the 3.1a Update and fly it once, then exit.

Your CFS3 is now re-installed.

Download the CFS3 Mission Builder from here: http://www.microsoft.com/Games/combatfs3/cfs3_sdk.aspx#missionbuild

Now install the Mission builder and you are done for now.

Before installing ETO, I highly recommend the official ETO Installation Guide, available here: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/page.php?lloc=downloads&loc=downloads&page=downloads&FileUploadName=hairyspin

ETO consists of 5 separate downloads, 1 of which is purely optional:

CFS3 ETO Expansion 1.0
CFS3 ETO Expansion Cumulative Update 1.20
CFS3 ETO Expansion Cumulative Update 1.40 Install Pack
CFS3 ETO Exp Cumulative Update 1.40 Hotfix Install Pack
ETO FirePower USAAF HeavyBombers2 (Optional - requires four folders from the aircraft folder of a FirePower for CFS3 install: B_17_share, b_17f, B_17G, and B_24J.)

Note: If you don't have FirePower, you can't use this optional package.

Simply download all four main parts of ETO from here: http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/files/category/10-eto-pto-sim-outhouse/

Take care when downloading these zip files, as they are rather large. I recommend doing nothing else on your computer while downloading.

Follow the ETO Installation Guide for ETO 1.0 and ETO 1.20. Be sure to fly it between installations for best results.

Then follow the READMEs that come with the ETO 1.40 and ETO 1.40 Hotfix for installation of these two packages.

If you have any problems or questions, please come here or the ETO/PTO Forum at Aussiex.

Good luck.:d
