I'm not used to browse in FSX threads, rather CFS3 addict, but very glad to watch our old Etendards still floating in the sims skys !

C'est magnifique!! :france::applause:

I have the Etendard downloaded but haven't installed it yet as I've not "flown" in months. That video makes me want to fire up the sim right now! :)

Do you have a 1080p version? I've a bunch of these HD sim clips on my htpc that I love to watch from time to time.

Looks cool. how long did it take you to make?

Its hard to say how long it took me actually. The longest part is the formation flying and the Fsrecording. I spent some time flying the etendard and train on the Clemenceau (maybe 20 hours?)
The editing part took roughly 2 days. (Its quite fast as I know how the video should look like at the end). What takes me a long time is choose the soundtrack as I try to make the pictures match the music.
I would say roughly 35 hours (flying included).
As I don't have much free time at this time, I tried to make the video quickly to pay my personal tribute to this wonderful freeware french airplane which is worth most of the recent paywares on the market. Thanx to the Royale french navy team for their outstanding work !

+ I discovered carrier operations, making a video about the beautiful Razbam A-7, and I am just addicted to this kind of ops now! :ernae:

Thank you everyone for your comments! :ernae:

NB : I show another gem by Tim Conrad in the video : The MS 760 Paris.

Hi mirageIII2009,

Great video, very nicely done :)

On your youtube channel, you did a series of videos for the Classics Hangar FW190, except I dont think you ever did the takeoff video, only the Start-up, taxi, fuel management and landing videos. Do you think you might be able to complete the set by a takeoff procedure video? :wavey:

Thanks again for the great videos :salute:

Hi MirageIII,

Did you ever make a take-off test flight video for the CH FW190? I love the rest of your flight test (And story) videos, but I havent been able to find that one. :wavey:

Great video BTW! :salute:

Hello SADT, You're right, the #3 is missing. I didn't shoot the takeoff! :)
I might go ahead with this one as soon as I have time for it.
Takeoff on this marvel is not very demanding anyway, landing is much more challenging.
Thanks for your support! :ernae:

I've been flying the Etendard for a while. I was wondering if there had been any futher modifications/update. I am running aircraft.cfg version 0.5.2/ EtendardIVM_V14.MDL.

I am not a pilot, nor have I flown the Etendard, but the flight model in some respects seems to be a bit off in comparison to a number of other similar aircraft I fly. For e.g. take-off speed seems to be excessively high and flying under 300 knots starts to generate wing-tip vortex condensation, which as far as FSX is concerned, I take this being an indication of the wing producing a less than ideal amount of lift (unless I got it completely wrong).

Don't take me wrong, this plane is a terrific effort with a magnificent VC. I was just wondering if any updates had been made to this plane.

P.S.: MirageIII2009 - I really love your videos!

Here is the latest version ...

http://royalefrenchnavy.gratisim.fr/FSX_Avions.htm

I have also observed the vortices coming on a bit early also, though I'm not sure it's a lift related cause, as you propose. Were that the case, vortices would appear at the onset of stall ...

In any event, try this model and see how you get on.

Best regards,

thanks for posting the video - it's really well done!

I just went to checksix and got the Etendard IVM and it is also very impressive...

terrific external model - beauty vc - and almost no FPS impact at all.

Hi D-L,

Thanks! I am using that version. I wasn't suggesting that the onset of the vortices equates to stalling but you can feel that at that point you need to pitch up to maintain the current altitude, hence why I suggested that a significant amount of lift was being lost despite still flying close to 300 knots. re: Take-off, don't you think a speed close to 240-250 knots (with flaps) for take off is excessive (even without a full load of fuel)? I would have assumed a take of speed around 150-170 knots would be more realistic given that a catapult is going to bring you up to 110-120 knots? I can still cat shot without any problems regardless. Just a few thoughts.

Cheers!

Hi!
I'm not a specialist in FDE but I can give some basic answers :

Regarding vertex: I really don't know how this is managed. It seems that FSX manage by itself the contrails according to some parameters like temperature, speed etc... It can appear at many different speeds and for me nothing is directly linked with lift effects or something like that...

Regarding speed, you have to take into account that Etendard was built in the year 60's for flying low and speed. Such jet was design for flying above 300knts...

Nevertheless, it is a carrier jet, so landing and take off has to be done as much as possible at low speed (around 130knt according weight)...
Take off is also about 130knts (full flaps) and not 250knts : over 200knts, flaps have to be raised up!!
Last, landing configuration is : gears+full flaps+full airbrakes!!
Like many jets of this area, you need to keep the rpm quite high and use airbrakes to slow down the speed and keeping enough power... The pitch need also to be high in order to maintain/control your approach and "fly the ball"... so don't forget to set the seat on high position...

With such jet, engine control was the key point for (carrier) landing...
If your interested in, try this:
- be sure to be at the landing weight (all the 4 fuel lights on)
- set throttle around 7400 rpm
- take the landing configurations : gears down + full flaps + airbrakes
- take about 10° pitch

and then control your glideslope using only throttle by keeping the BIP (AOA 3 colors light box) with green light and flashing amber... Nothing else is needed...

I hope it will help you....
Regards,
Sylvain

Hi Sylvain,

Thanks for the exhaustive answer! I will certainly try your suggestions as for e.g. I was not applying the airbrakes during landing! Thinking about it, I might have not been trimming correctly for a land-based take off. Will trim up and see if I can get airborne at the speed you suggested!

Merci beaucoup! Cet avion est formidable! :applause:

Hi again Sylvain,

Tried your suggestions and I am trapping perfectly between 130-140 knots. As for take-off. It was as I suspected... I just needed to trim up a bit and managed to take off around 130 knots.

Merci :-)

Glad it's getting sorted.

Also, as with any fast carrier jet, make sure you are coming aboard with minimal fuel. I never come with more than 20%. This should bring approach speeds down to managable levels due to a lower gross weight.

Cheers

Yes I am aware of gross weight limitations for approach/landing... and perhaps it was a clear case of **** :-)

While I still love flying Dino's F-14 and T-45, as well as the Sludge Hornet, this is fast becoming my favourite carrier ops toy.

Are you working on a new project Sylvain?
