View Full Version : Carenado C206 Repaint

Well, since picking up several of the Carenado FS9 Cessna fleet I've been bitten by the GA bug! So, I thought I'd paint up a few starting with the 206. But then I discovered, after falsely assuming otherwise (yeah I know), that the vertical tail texture is mirrored! The dilemma is that all of the NWAS 206s carry the registration on the base of the vert. tail which, in this case, is mirrored on the port side!

The curious thing is that there are two opposite VT surfaces in the texture bmps but only one is used.

Am I missing something or is it time to just move on to some 206's with no lettering/numbering on the vert tails?

Comments and suggestions?

BTW, pay no attention to the state of the repaint. It is (was?) a very early WIP.

Thanks,
Duckie

Love it! The 206 was one of the ones I picked up.
In my opinion, the more realistic the better.

Funny you mention mirror rego. I have actually seen one there 206's on the tarmac at Norman wells a few months ago with a reversed rego lol. I think there painter was a wee bit into the fumes lol. Looking real good and thank you from us RW Arctic Canuks.

That's strange - had the same issue with their FSX Bushwagon.
Seems like a special Carenado bug...

unfortunately doesn't hold any specific model patch...

Cheers,
Markus.

Yeah, thanks Markus, that's the first place I checked. After further investigation into the texture sets, it seems the mirroring is intentional. One vertical tail section is the modified version with the wider rudder for the float version and the other vertical tail is for the standard land version with the narrow rudder and fincap extension.

Seems like an unusal corner cutting measure that really screws up those paints that "need" unmirrored tails!

I guess we'll just have to live with it.

Cheers,
Steve

OK, we're livin' with it. :icon_lol: Here's the first of the North-Wright fleet. Just finished the texture work and now on to the docs. It'll be uploaded tomorrow evening. :wavey:

This is the real one.

Very nice work, mate!
Don't bother about that rego too much: Repainting is always some sort of compromise between what should be done and what could...

Two bummers for me:
1. The North Wright paint on the Bushwagon is already done by Gunnar van der Meeren.
2. I didn't buy the Stationair during the sale. :banghead:

Cheers,
Markus.

Thanks Markus.

Yeah, the mirrored tail is minor compared to all the positive aspects of the model. I put a request in for a patch and they said they would consider it. So, fingers crossed.

I wondered why you hadn't already jumped on the N-W 185. Now I know!

Keep up the good work.

Later,
Steve
