View Full Version : CAI / Chianti question for the Britons...

Good morning gents,

I was looking over the Harwich area, which was bombed heavily by the Italians, and have decided I want to build a GSL port in the area rather than use the crude version I created before. For the Harwich raid, I accidentally placed the Harwich Port at Shotley Gate, when in fact the port should be farther east. As in real life, the port that I wish to build will be located on the opposite shore. I have circled in red where I placed the port originally, and have made two blue circles of potential sites, with a yellow circle for where I'd place Usio's lighthouse.

The area looks like a natural sheltered harbor, so I don't see the need for breakwaters, but if there were, I'll gladly put them in.

Please excuse the crudeness of my writing...

I took a quick look at Google Earth and this is a screen shot of the Harwich area. Looks like the docks are where you intend to move them, although this is a current shot and not one of 1940.

Good evening,

While the others are out taking a smoke break, I figured I'd attack the Harwich and Great Yarmouth layouts and their GSL files for you to toy with. These will be part of CAI / Chianti.

The GSL files add the infrastructure, the layouts are for mission builder for the vehicles, ships, and AA guns.

You'll need A LOT of stuff to make these work, but I think the results speak for themselves.

You'll need Collin's British merchants: http://www.simviation.com/lair/files/shipyard1/merchantmen41.zip

You'll need Sully's barges: http://www.simviation.com/lair/files/sully/PSK_Barges.zip

You'll need Pen32Win's 40mm gun: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/downloads/download.php?lloc=downloads&FileID=8940

You'll need the Bedford truck: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/downloads/download.php?lloc=downloads&FileID=14307

You'll need the Virtual Navy freighters: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/downloads/download.php?lloc=downloads&FileID=1020

You'll need Wolfi's library objects, part VII: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/downloads/download.php?lloc=downloads&FileID=12063

You'll need Wolfi's library objects, part VI: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/downloads/download.php?lloc=downloads&FileID=11709

You'll need Wolfi's library objects, part I: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/downloads/download.php?lloc=downloads&FileID=2677

Library pack I fix: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/downloads/download.php?lloc=downloads&FileID=2720

You'll need Wolfi's library objects, part III: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/downloads/download.php?lloc=downloads&FileID=7393

You'll need Xavierb's piers and breakwaters: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/downloads/download.php?lloc=downloads&FileID=7892

You'll also need his warehouses: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/downloads/download.php?lloc=downloads&FileID=7557

You'll need his barrage balloons: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/downloads/download.php?lloc=downloads&FileID=6271

Update: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/downloads/download.php?lloc=downloads&FileID=6455

You'll need Gary 20's RAF buildings: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/downloads/download.php?lloc=downloads&FileID=4221

You'll need Lindsay Watt's library objects: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/downloads/download.php?lloc=downloads&FileID=2610

You'll need Pen32Win's airfield buildings pack: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/downloads/download.php?lloc=downloads&FileID=13475

And lastly, you'll need Usio's lighthouses: http://www.geocities.jp/usio_no_ibuki/EFFECTS/JMK_inf_Light_House.zip

The reason why you need airfield buildings is because I had to merge Achim's Martlesham GSL with the one for Harwich. But it works beautifully now.

If possible, I would like a couple of people to beta-test the scenery for me!

Looking great Rami, heaps of work by you once again.

One thing I did not see on your list:-
Br_94mm_AAgun.zip - British 94mm AA gun for CFS2 by W. Dickens (bismarck13@msn.com)
I don't know if there were any of them emplaced in the area, would certainly give the Germans & Italians a bit more flak.

Seagull,

Great suggestion! I can throw a couple of those in the layouts for the two ports, that's easy. You can't put ships, vehicles, and AA guns in the GSL scenery anyway...the ships don't sink and the guns won't fire.

That's why the GSL scenery itself doesn't have them. But I can certainly add them to a mission or two as a "surprise."

Hey Rami,

the screen captures look excellent. Those harbours of you are very good-looking indeed :salute:.

A couple of OT questions: is that BR.20 skin available somewhere or is it special for your campaign?. It looks great.

And another one: did you do the plane model conversion to CFS2? . I did it on my own, but I got strange flickers in the flaps and fuselage that I don't know how to fix. Does it happen also in your conversion?.

Also, if you want to test it, I have a .DP for the Giulli plane.

Japlance,

That's actually the Fiat Br-20 'Cicogna' from Icarus.

Some modifications to the panel and airfile have been made, and I'd LOVE to get some skins for it, like this...

Ooops, I thought it was Giulli's plane. OK then ;-).

Good evening,

I finished the 'Chianti Raiders' side, but there's still twenty missions for C.A.I. left to go. I hope to be done fairly soon.

BuV,

Looks like the contact points need to be adjusted there.

I read in Peter Haining's book 'The Chianti Raiders' (a very good source for this whole campaign) that bad weather delayed the CAI's trip across the Alps and the crews had plenty of last minute opportunity to indulge in the local cuisine before they left Italy. Maybe it's all that pasta . . .http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/images/icons/icon23.gif

BuV,

I did not know about the book until I was well into writing the campaign, though I've thought about reading it. My primary source document for its creation was based almost exclusively on this page alone: http://surfcity.kund.dalnet.se/falco_bob.htm

Good evening,

With the missions I've worked on today, all of the fighter-based missions have been done, and ten out of the twenty Italian missions are now complete.

Additionally, both the British and Italian campaigns have a dynamic element. On November 11th, 1940, you fly one of two missions for either side, not both. Just my way of adding a different "twist" to things, as well as many more random chance elements.

Good evening,

Five more bomber missions done this evening, there's only five to go. I will have to hold things up just a hair though before releasing, I'll need the help of an airfile expert or two for this one...
