Hello there guys

I have made the last of the C-130 series and it is a repaint for the payware CaptainSim Legendary C-130 in the colours of a SAAF C-130B Hercules of 28 Squadron in the Original Metal Delivery Scheme during the 1963 after some use with a darker and faded metal complexion. This C-130B Hercules was delivered with a polished natural metal finish and the gloss White fuselage decking was separated by a thin Blue stripe which surrounded the Castle insignia while the words SA Lugmag/ SA Air Force was painted behind the cockpit. Walkways was painted Aircraft Grey. The Serial numbers appeared behind the cockpit and on the tail in gloss black. Spinners, radome and prop de-icers were Matt Black. The fin flash and prop tips sported the colours of Blue, White and Orange.

To obtain the payware CaptainSim Legendary C-130 a purchase should be made from http://www.captainsim.com for this repaint to work. This repaint is 100% ACE (Aircraft Configuration Editor) compatible and can be installed through it.

I have uploaded the repaint at http://www.flightsim.com so be sure to check it out! Make a search for either SAAF or Pieters, if the repaints do not show yet it maybe due to the servers not showing them yet.

I have included a few screenshots below to show you how it looks...

That is absolutely gorgeous; I love the 'silver' SAAF era, being a big fan of the SAAF B(I).12s when they were at Waterkloof in the 60s. Something about the orange, white and blue fin flash is wicked on this C-130, almost oversized. I love it. Lovely detailing on the metal work too; so nice to see subtle panelling rather than overblown FSX-style bump-mapping (sorry chaps, not a fan of that).

Great stuff, keep it up.

Very nice work there, mate! :applause:

The differently shaded panels indeed look great!
I know the quite elaborated CaptainSim paint kit seduces the painter to be lazy and to just add some colour onto it. Your "custom" panels make it even look better.

Interesting to see the SAAF making use of bilingual lettering too, presuming "Lugmag" as the africaans word for our german "Luftmacht", meaning Air Force.

Keep it up!

Cheers,
Markus.

Thank you very much for the positive comments and feedback, I really appreciate it!:salute: I am absolutely a SAAF fan since it is my home country.:jump: I also love the 'silver' SAAF days in the 60's, even though I was not even born. I have rather a number of pictures of some SAAF B(I).12s when they were at Waterkloof, most of them in the PRU scheme they had since my uncle was a photographer in the SAAF and operated with 12 Sqn SAAF. the orange, white and blue fin flash I have to agree with you since it has some strings to the WWii era of aircraft painted that way. Thank you very much for the compliments on the metal work, it was quite cumbersome to do it...painting each panel on its own and it was a first technique for me and also my first bare metal and it did come out better then expected.:wiggle:Must agree on the FSX-style bump-mapping theory with you there!

Thank you very much for the positive comments and feedback Marcus, I really appreciate it!:salute:hank you very much for the compliments on the metal work, it was quite cumbersome and time consuming not to say the least to do it...painting each panel on its own. You are quite right about your CS130 paintkit statement. If you want the bare metal base textures saved as bitmaps, I can send them anytime to you if you want to use it for a paint or so.:wavey:You are once again correct with your observation on the bilingual use of lettering. Most SAAF aircraft in the time of pre-1994 had always warning markings, decals etc. in both afrikaans and english so yes the word "Lugmag" in afrikaans means Air Force. "Lugmag" sounds very much like your german "Luftmacht" counterpart since afrikaans has been derived from dutch, german and a few other languages.

I will try and keep the skies filled with SAAF airplanes:salute:

Slightly off topic but does the Captain Sim C-130 work with Windows Vista/7? I saw once site indicating it did not.
