View Full Version : Etendard IVM BETA is released

...and it looks fantastic!
The VC is simply the best VC I have seen for a Dassault aircraft. (even if the Mystere IV, Mirage 2000 and even Mirage IV for FS9 VC's are fantastic).

Is this not finished yet? In the name is "beta" ?

Hi!
Good question! Well we call it "beta" for two reasons:
1) it's an intermediate version meaning we're working on other operationnal configurations (like the refueling on for instance) and it will take more times to be ready.
2) there're some modeling/coding enhancement to be done (canopy, seat, holdback, etc...) and we decided it was not critical...

So instead of calling it "version 0.1" or "1a" we called it "beta" as for "not fully at the standard we 're expecting" but nothing more :icon_lol:

I hope that you'll enjoy her!
Regards
S.

PS: a new release of the Clemenceau is coming available. No major enhancement but some important adaptations to work fine with the Etendard (like removing the sling)
PS2 : English manual is included into the aircraft folder

Without a doubt, one of the best Freeware add-ons for FSX so far!

Well done to the team, they have built a superb detailed VC that runs without any stutters on my PC, something few (if any) payware products at this level can do. The only tiny snag is the lack of RW users, on the re-paint front, but we cannot blame the developers for that!

Hi!
Thank you! We appreciate all these positive feedbacks.

Btw calypsos, could enlighten me : what do you mean by "RW users"??

Other point, yes the Fouga Zephyr (the navy version of the Fouga Magister) is currently reworked by Retauravia's team. It will be a full FSX model with nav ops optimisation and some very nice enhancements. So far we don't have any release date known...

PS: Calypsos, I agree - a well-designed aircraft that would have been a good strike/reconnaissance naval asset for many other nations. For my part, I've always wondered if Canada's Navy had retained her strike capability into the 60s and 70s, would the Etendard not have been a logical choice? I would likely have been a good choice for other smaller naval forces, such as NZ and AU - wonder if they considered it in the context of the Skyhawk purchases? Would have made a good land-based strike plane too, for a whole host more nations. Curious what export considerations were made, but not actually pursued, with this aircraft?

The HUD is very well done. There´s something wacky going on with lights, though. I use the Skysim MirageIII sounds with this baby instead of the Acceleration's Hornet.

That light issue is a MSFS problem that many add-ons have, it was a bug that has never been sorted. Still, in reality, my head will not spin that far back, so it is not a problem for me!

Just loving this aircraft, for me this is the best (and most fun) carrier aircraft to fly since the FS9 Sea Vixen, which I have never tried to port over.

An absolutely outstanding addon ! There's something about these French addons that set them apart from most, and this one has it all :salute:
Very well done indeed.
The texturing looks exceptional but I miss subtle bump mapping and the cockpit would probably also benefit from a slightly duller specular shine. I find the various parts of the cockpit a bit glary.
Would it be an idea to add an alpha channel to the external diffuse maps?
Is the model enabled for an alpha channel on the diffuse maps?
I know most of these aircraft were painted using gloss colours. An alpha on the diffuse maps (say RGB 240-240-240/almost white) and a slightly darker specular map would be something to try, possibly.
Please don't take this as critisism, I'm just brainstorming here.
I hope there will be a repaint kit issued, this thing is a keeper :jump::jump:

Thanks for the hard work

I´m sorry, but that Atar sound file sounds as much as the real deal as my Ford Explorer sounds like a Ferrari, I can tell you this since where i currently live there is a military base full of F-1´s (which are being phased out btw in favor of Grippens) and i see and hear them everyday.
The Skysim Mirage sound is very close to what i can hear, even as it´s 2 different Atar engines, but it´s pretty close.

Hi!
There're two points on your screenshots:
1- As calypsos said FSX is doing some strange things mixing lights hard coded in the exterior model with the virtual cockpit model...
2- I didn't add the wings into the VC model... I was wondering to not increase to much my number of polys, but will certainly add them later with the next release...

Regarding paint scheme, unfortunately, only French Navy had this Etendard and they didn't have a lot of inspiration : grey/white and grey/light grey in 20 years of service... mmm bad news for all the repainters...(lol)

Regarding the crash due to a object collision, did you installed the last version of Clemenceau (v2.08)? I cleaned up the flight deck in order to avoid such problem...

Regarding sounds, yes the Mirage F1 soundset is a good choice (F1 used almost the same engine) but don't forget to edit the sound.cfg and copy -paste the last entries taken from the F-18 sound file: it will add sounds for nav ops actions like trapping....

Last, the team and I are very happy to read that you like this plane: the more simmers fly with navy planes the more I'm happy...:bump:

Sylvain

This is a freeware gem of incalculable proportions!, only problem i have is, no matter the AOA, and where you hit on the Clem deck, i get an object collision, BUT, if i do hit the deck just after the wires, for a bolter, once you pull up, there is another object collision..any ideas?

Thanks , I appreciate the comment!

Regarding object collision, I think it is due to the Clemenceau model... I just had a look at it searching what may cause this problem but I don't find out any "guilty" object except the shuttle...
It seems to be different from one PC to another FSX... I have such differencies also with the launchbar (disarming sometimes)...
I will work on it and keep you informed... In the meanwhile try to fly with "crash detection" off? (lol)

It is interesting what Prowler mentions. I have no issues with object collisions with the Etendard and Clem but I do with Roland's F-8 FSX portover. I get the object collision just as the plane crosses the ramp if I am just slightly low on the glideslope. When the collision detection occurs, I notice that on the exterior view, the Crusader is well above the deck/ramp. Oddly all other aircraft models do fine on Clem!

peter12213

I think it may be the wing tips that are causing the object collision on the Clem, I fired the cat with minimal fuel pulled up hard and still an object collision, also the LSO is not working, still really happy with this wonderful aircraft but for the final release this must be sorted and I'm working on it myself to see what I can do, any results will be emailed to you Sylvain! :salute:

2- I didn't add the wings into the VC model... I was wondering to not increase to much my number of polys, but will certainly add them later with the next release...

I totally agree. It would be great to have the wings included in the VC. When using TrackIR their absence is notable. I like to use the wing as a reference when flying circuits.

Also, a tiny point... in the VC again, is it possible to improve the appearance of the bolts around the canopy frame a little? The guages and everything else have supurb detail, but the canopy frame less so. Perhaps bump mapping could help here also?

Many thanks again and well done!

You need to download and install a freeware utility nammed "AICarriers 2".
Then the automatic installer of the Clemenceau will modify the AICarriers configuration so that it appears in the list of carriers.

Not intending to interrupt this thread but...

Now here's one little gremlin in FSX that I've never seen before.
I was out last night doing some circuit training with this great duo package of the Etendard IV M and the Clemenceau.
I always fly in Preview DirectX 10 mode, the local time was approximately 1700-1800 hrs. My latest nVidia driver is 197.45.
As I set up for approach, following the audible cues from the LSO, giving me "wave off" after "wave off"...I finally had had
enough of him...#%&@*!... and I just slammed the Etendard down onto the deck which resulted in a loud crashing sound and an
"over-G" warning.I gave her full back pressure on the stick and poured the "coals" to her. I proceeded to obtain the circuit
pattern, turned and flew the downwind leg and that is when I saw this....

21852

As I finished my base turn and lined up for yet another approach, this apparition was still there!

21853

My assumption is this is related to how that Preview DirectX 10 mode handles the display of lights in FSX. I could not
reproduce this event while out doing more circuit training this A.M.
Oh well, I guess that when I slammed the Etendard onto the deck I knocked the lights clean off of her! :isadizzy:
I'm off to the FSX Blue Angels web site http://www.fsxblueangels.com/ for some remedial training. :salute:

Hi!
ANd thank you for your nice comments!

I come back after a little break in Switzerland...

For all the people who use another soundset than the F18 aliased one, you should add this lines at the end of your new Sound.cfg file:

[CARRIER_TRAP]

Regarding the other carrier sounds (wingfold, launch bar, etc...) I'm not sure it is necessary. Firstly, Etendard wingflold are manual (so no specific sound) and secondly, front gear extension and tailhook are moved with hydaulic circuit which doesn't make any sound...

Other point, I thought about the object detection problem. Is the Clemenceau 2.08 install program has overrided the previous version? Some users had problems and found out that v2.05 were still used. May be check the Model folder and model.cfg file, the right mdl file is: "Clemenceau_HD_v28.MDL"

Last, if anyone has trouble with the catapult launch procedure, please check that you do have FSUIPC 4 installed and running (free version) : it is needed for having the adjusted catapult working.

Sylvain

I'm enjoying this package immensely (Etendard & Clemenceau).

Trapping on the Clemenceau is definitely a challenge...but a good one.

Is anyone else getting an object collision when launching from the waist cat on the Clem?

I had this problem constantly!! I tried different aircraft, different fuel loads and different launch techniques and nothing but object collisions. I finally gave up and now use just the Ark Royal IV and Javier's Nimitz.

Hi,
I'm sorry about that...

It occured with 2.05, the previous Clemenceau version, and me and my team mates had to fly with "object collision" unchecked.
But with the v2.08, we don't have any object collision left...

May be check in your Clemenceau folder, into Model folder and model.cfg file, the right mdl file is: "Clemenceau_HD_v28.MDL".
I you are already using this mdl, I don't know what happened, because all the flight deck of the 3D model is "cleaned up" : all the objects have a "no crash" property attached...

If any carrier or scenery designers may help me understanding what's happening?

S.

OK I've got the Etendard, the Clemenceau 2.8, FSUIPC 4, Aicarrier2, I have positionned the Clem close to Cannes, I can see it, I slewed to the deck, I'm in position on top of the catapult (well I think so) and now what? How do I trigger the catapult? shift-I or U or space bar? I want to fly, not swim! I'm lost here, help!
Except this (my incompetence), the plane and the boat are just wonderful... The Etendard works fine with the Nimitz... Did I missed something with the Clem?

Hi!
Please try to use the "Brakes" instead of "Shift+Space". "Shift+Space" is the acceleration catapult launch build for the F18. Using the Brakes, you will have a launch which takes into account the plane weight, the true wind over the deck and the original reference data sheet.

Last, It seems that, on your screenshot, flaps are not down ... don't forget to extend the flaps if you don't want to finish your flight with "Pedro" (the Alouette safeguard helo)

This I am positive is caused by using MAX realisim or as I prefer MAX CRAP, try it with the sliders pulled back to the left if ok advance them till the problem reappears

peter12213, you may remember the collision fiasco when Victorious was released, down to Max Realisim if I remember rightly, I spent a day taxiing around running into things with no crashes till MAX Crap was turned on, same with the hold back disengaging on it's own Max crap again, as far as I am concerned it is a pile of half baked junk throwing random multipliers into the works.

The Fs9 realism is probably near right and causes none of these problems.

Snecma Atar 9K50 / 8K50 sound pack available at Mirage4FS.Com here :

http://www.mirage4fs.com/sounds.html (http://www.mirage4fs.com/sounds.html)

Very Very close to the real engine sound
:mixedsmi:

This is payware ($12.99) for the sound file. I am sure there are some freeware alternatives. A very nice and loud FS2004 sound file I used for Rick P's Meteor was actually from a Tu-154 airliner! Once installed, you would never know!

I was really worried about the flight dynamics on this aircraft... but it turned out it was just my flight controls being improperly calibrated.... this aircraft flies GREAT!

Peter and I flew a cross country across the channel today in 2 mile visibility and one thousand foot ceilings. The Entendard flies very very well in formation. I'm sure we'll be flying this one frequently. Thanks for a wonderfully flying machine -- she's a beauty. :salute::salute:

Yes, Michel is even more than an advisor in this project!

Regarding the photo, please do not forget to add that is taken from JM Gall's book "La Saga Etandard"...

Modernisé ( SEM ) and a FSX "Charles De Gaulle" nuclear aircraft carrier.

For the moment none of Super Etendard or Charles de Gaulle Carrier projects are really decided.
I've just released a first version of Etendard IVM and a V2.08 of Clemenceau and there are still a lot of work to be done on both. The next steps are: finishing EtendardIVM and IVP, doing a V3 of Clemenceau (fixing some bugs, adding a Foch circa 1975) and then I'd like to work on a Arromanches carrier (Ex HMS Collossus).

Doing a FSX model is a so long and so hard task (about 1 year just for the virtual cockpit that I've just released) that I can't look further than the current project and the one I woulld like to start just after...

OK, it happened again !(see my post on page 5 of this thread)

Changes since the last encounter with this apparition were that I aliased the sound to my SkySim Mirage III and edited that pkg's sound cfg. with the edit on page [6] of this thread.
This time after [6] "wave offs" I disobeyed and slammed her down on the deck pretty hard. This time I got the sound edit for the [CARRIER_TRAP] section, no "Over-G" and something like "trap 4th. wire, red deck."
I sure hope the LSO was not talking about blood...my blood!

Anyway as I retracted the tail hook, had the wingtips folded up and opened the canopy, I taxied to the fantail and turned to line up for a launch from the left waist catapult. The ship bounced x 1..I have my scenery mesh set at 2M...I think this causes the bouncing of scenery objects...and at this moment the lights on the deck began to move toward my position and slide underneath the Etendard. I snapped a couple of real quick screenies and spun around and continue to gather evidence.
I've made a 400 pixel GIF from one of those on line GIF maker places, hope this works.
What a strange bird FSX, Preview DirectX 10 mode is. :banghead:

Unfortunately , it is a FSX bug due to attached points for lights used into the carrier model...
Try to turn down your water effect settings and/or to not use the DX10 preview mode which bring a lot of ligth pb...
For now I don't know any other work-around neither fix to implement into my model...For your information, Nimitz carrier doesn't use attached points light but a specific attached point that add all the flight deck light at once....

I don't seem to have the LSO's voice at all is anyone else having this problem?

The LSO's voice doesn't use the Etendard sound folder but dsd_xml_sound gauge and the Acceleration carrier mission sound files.
Please check that your VHF sound light is on (close to the gear lever), and also that Clemenceau Tacan frequency is tuned on Nav2 with PHI mode set to "Tac".
Let me know if it still not work?

Hi!

Somtimes I wonder why I can spend so much time on modeling FS addon...
I've just find what causes the object collisions: the Alouette III helo flying beside the ship???

I really don't know why, but as long as I keep the helo into the model there are crashes during side catapult launch...
I tryed to add "no crash" tag into every objects of the Alouette, but all in vain...
So I decided to make a separate model for the Alouette exactly like Javier did for his Nimitz's chopper...

Last I still not find out how can I make the Etendard keep attached to some carrier's catapults, I have the feeling that FSX doesn't like that the plane have a pitch angle. Other strange behaviour, everything is fine when carriers are stopped, problems come when the carriers are moving...

I need to sleep...:crybaby:

Regards,
S.

PS: kremlin, you're welcome! Life is strange, in a previous life, onboard my "black boat" I used to cross the Clemenceau carrier without having a look to her, and now I spend night working on her without having put a single submarine into FS (lol) ...

Hello,
I can try to clean up my template in order to release a paint kit. But it will be just after the V1.0 release because mapping may change again...

These last weeks , we set up all the electricity circuit in order to be close to the real one (a lot of documents to read/understand...:isadizzy:) , I adjusted the side views in the VC ( adding wings, modify seat, etc..), added the drag chute and its code, technical doors,etc...
The work is well progressing but there are still a lot of work to be done. I don't have any date so far, mainly it will depend on my motivation this winter... :bump:

I have been using the TSS F-16...it works just great with the Etendard. If I remember, you have to add the TSS F-16 to the default Hornet. Etendard picks it up through there. Give it a try until (if) they release their own soundset.
