I tagged it as 'graphic' as I´m not aware of (un)official moderation guidelines regarding blood.

I almost missed the link since it was embedded in the word "Here..."

I have to wonder who writes up headlines for these stories, as Flight Lt Ian was not "shot between the eyes" at all. The bullet ricocheted off the helmet's bar, which is still dangerous, but less so than a direct "shot between the eyes" would have been...

No matter though, it was still a truly heroic bit of piloting!

This headline defies explanation though:

Dead Troops 'Inadequately' Trained

I've found that dead people rarely pay much attention to any instruction... :ernae:

I can't believe Mike Brewer was the guy reporting on this! A very lucky pilot and crew.

One of my heroes, Saburo Sakai, fought against us in WW2 but he did his duty, and returned to base in a flight that was close to 1100 miles or so, with two M2 Browning .50s in his head.

This Ch-47 pilot has my salute.

Way better than a Hollywood-like "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRGH!"
