Hey guys, I thought you might want to know about this one :)
This is freeware of course, the scenery is for FSX SP2 only, it has got a resolution of 2m/pixel, autogen and nightlights, Summer season only. The main airport of the area, KGCN (Grand Canyon Natural Park) has been dramatically improved. It is a stunning scenery, created by Antonio C., and Maurizio G. The photoreal scenery is based on the latest techniques, to ensure a real visual experience in flight. Colorado river has animated water in the parts where it's bigger. Here a quick overview of the area it concerns:

and some quick shots from the area :)

Thanks guys, the devs will certainly appreciate it and FYI, SP2 meaning that it works in Acceleration as well :) I run Acceleration and I took those shots that you see above so there is no dramas

That's sweet! I wish it was for the Acceleration pack too.

SP2 is part of Acceleration, so it should work fine with acceleration

what is meant is that it isn't for those that for whatever reason, don't have a final build of FSX, and only have SP1 installed.

Question JayKae, any idea why we are not dling the actual scenery, but a file that connects to whoknowswhere and supposedly d/ls just the files itself?

I am a bit leary about this process and would love some more info before blindly allowing some unknown executable to install something on my rig.

Looks great!:applause:

Quick question,though........will this conflict with Megascenery Las Vegas or can both sceneries be active at the same time?

Sure mate, the download helper is something I have been using for a little while, it is an app called GetRightToGo but customised for our purposes at OZx, what it actually does is download a small app to your computer which connects to the main download link but IF your connection drops out or you have another problem of any kind with your connection you can always resume with this app. As files are getting bigger and bigger (next release of OZx will be ~1000MB) we started getting more and more people with support issues about corrupted downloads etc. with this, it will not happen, you will never waste any of your bandwidth. Also the ETO here at Sim-Outhouse has been released using the same software ( http://www.aussiex.org/index/download.php?list.13 ) ... users seem to love it.

JayKae
November 22nd, 2008, 13:34
No, it will not clash with Las Vegas

Thanks for the info JayKae, makes sense, even though I have never had a dropped download before, but I guess I'll give it a shot then

Absolutely superb JayKae, brilliant effort.:ernae: It is indeed a stunning visual feast.

Also interesting to see (from the various screenshots) are the differing choices of aircraft folks use to cruise around in. I really like the variety this sim offers. :)

Hi Folks

The scenery is for FSX SP2 only, it has got a resolution of 2m/pixel.........
http://www.fsfiles.org/imagehost/uploads/1227407273.jpg

Not wishing to become overly familiar with the equidae family's mandibulary construction,
was that 2m/px for the mesh or the photoscenery ? :icon_lol:

EDIT -
Since looked at Nil's shots,
which give an alternative view.

Paul, the 2m/px refers to photoscenery, not the mesh.

Thanks to OZx and all involved with this pack.

Yep... There is rather a lot of "future oil" growing there all of a sudden.

There's another Grand Canyon photo scenery that came out a few months ago. Not quite as pin sharp, no added water in the river - but no trees up beyond the treeline either. Maybe them guys downunder will fixit?

Nice! This will go well with Megascenery Phoenix and the areas I'm doing. If anyone wants other AZ photo scenery, I have Tucson, Prescott and the White Mountains on my site at www.kb-sim.com. Prescott is complete. Tucson and the White Mountains are works in progress. The Tucson scenery is 5500 square miles. The White Mountain scenery covers 1225 square miles.

One criticism - the autogen trees around the airport end up too dense when done with large rectangles. I recommend doing a group of small squares, copy it and paste, paste, paste...

Cazzie
November 24th, 2008, 10:11
Like Bruce, you cannot appreciate it unless you wide-angle out and focus on the scenery rather than the airplane. but like Scotsman, it really needs to be flown in a very good VC to really enjoy the virtual experience. Tremendous OZx crew, just tremendous. All screens done this morning using Active Sky 6.5 and FSGenesis 9.6-meter mesh. Texture resolution in FSX is set at 10-meters.

Thank you very much Mr. Piglet for the Mooney, it is my favorite gad-about in FSX.

The Oz Grand Canyon and mesh is an amazing treat, especially since it is free. I love flying in this new scenery. Since this has been an area of interest for some time, I purchased the Taburet version earlier this year.

In the next sequence of pictures I show some comparisons. It would be difficult to choose one over the other, but one seems better in some respects and vise versa.

In the first pair of pictures the Taburet scenery extends further east than does the Oz. This area is near the White Knolls plateau region. Here the Oz scenery (Left picture) does not exist and only the default scenery shows.

jimjones
November 29th, 2008, 11:20
This pair of shots shows a significant difference in color. The Oz scenery (Left picture again) is much more realistic in my opinion. It seems that the authors of the Oz scenery may have masked out detail just beyond the rim. Near the rim are pink colors fading befond the rim to default textures.

jimjones
November 29th, 2008, 11:32
This is the Grand Canyon Villiage area and beyond the airport. The Oz photo (Left picture) seems to have less detail on the slopes especiaaly in the dark brown bands that run horizontally in parallel with the top of the rim and one another. Perhaps the source of the photos is different and the Oz picture may be in more in shadow. I like the Taburet shot better except that it is washed out compared to Oz.

jimjones
November 29th, 2008, 11:45
This pair of shots shows dramatic differences. The Oz pic (Left) shows significant color and is very realistic in places. However there again are the dark brown areas that show no detail. The Taburet pic is very washed out and disappointing. It would be interesting to know where the original photos came from to produce the sceneries and what techniques each author used to color and tweak the images. In any case it must have been a significant effort and both are very much appreciated.

I'm early in my viewing of the Oz scenery, and I'm sure I'll be very much impressed as I continue to explore it. More than likely I'll use the Oz scenery the most and use the Taburet scenery for the eastern area of the canyon not included in the Oz scenery.

I won't be shy about it, with the sole exception of coverage, yours looks far superior to Taburet's! :ernae:
