I just damn hope the security guard in the background is a puppet or photographic artifact. He looks kind of...weird...

That photo brought back some memories. I learned to type on a manual typewriter and we still have my wife's grandmother's old pre-war Smith-Corona Stirling. My wife and I used it to type much of our college work and daily correspondence back in the day. We finally bought an electric typewriter in the early 80s.

Believe it or not, it still types just as well today as it did in the late 30s. I wish my computers would last so long! I just took a look at it and it still looks almost new except for the little gum erasure debris in it. Still ink enough in the ribbon to type a letter.

I'll bet that security guard is actually a porter and did you notice the old 35mm range finder camera behind the travel case lid for the typewriter? This guy had all the bells and whistles for the 50s although his attire seems awfully casual for a traveler of that era.

Doesn't crash either, unless you drop it from your hands!

Jag- The photo was taken at Miami Intl Airport. Maybe he was heading down to the islands? That would explain his casual attire.
