How are the FPS in CFS2? And I wonder what the 2D and VC look like with all those gauges replaced... even more, I'd like to see how the FD changed with conversion... many of the dynamic characteristics were embedded in the gauges!

Well, i confess that this one is probably gonna be a frame hog for medium and low end machines. My frames are btwn 30-45 with a full load of 8 birds in formations. And i aliased all sound and panels to one location to cut down on graphics and sound loading. This is mainly a player aircraft...you can find other FPS lightweights in CFS2 Sabres these days for your AI. Maybe later i'll see if Jan can help me arrange something in a lighter multi-LOD version with scasm.

Would this be a good time to press that trigger FS9 fans? :icon_twi:

For the tight, high right echelon formation, you first have to pick the aircraft you want to display. In this case i chose 5 skins in five different a/c folders. Using MDLC, you reduce the collision bubbles of all to '5' or '6' or they won't play nice with each other :icon_lol:. Then you create a test mission and pick your preselected lead ship as the player a/c and put five in the formation. You only need 2 waypoints - Turn (1st wypnt ) and Land Anywhere (2nd wypnt). Set altitude and speed the same for both waypoints. Save the mission, test flight or just exit MB.

Open the mis file in notepad and edit the units, formation.0 and unit_types as follows:

bearcat241
November 27th, 2008, 10:34
Its actually a credit to the original painters Jax...the FS9-styled, photo real textures seem to fake a polish very well even in CFS2. These alpha textures compliment FS9's respect for reflectivity. Lacking model reflection in CFS2, all i did was shine the mdl up with MDLC and convert the originals from DXT3 alpha to DXT1 to kill the transparencies caused by the mdl's alpha. I was pleasantly surprised as well with the results.

bearcat241
November 27th, 2008, 15:31
Sorry for the inconvenience...another oversight with the final packaging. The model won't show in the selection window unless you fix the aircraft.cfg header.

Open the aircraft.cfg and just delete the word "patricia" only from the texture line in the header:

Have fun DD!...

Dvslats pointed out another error: the droptanks in the dp aren't set to the standard Fox Four tanks 'as advertised', but rather to a set of custom repainted Fox4 tanks i re-created to match the hue and color of the default photoreal textures on this model. I purposely chose not to upload the modded tank with this package and used the original instead, and i thought i had modified the dp back to the original Fox4 tank accordingly. Apparently not....

So, here's the fix:

[PAYLOAD.1]
; Payload = Guns Only Long Range
mount.0=wep_sf8sabre_droptank, 1, 1
mount.1=wep_sf8sabre_droptank, 1, -1

CHANGE TO:

[PAYLOAD.1]
; Payload = Guns Only Long Range
mount.0=f86e_droptank, 1, 1
mount.1=f86e_droptank, 1, -1

bearcat241
November 27th, 2008, 17:46
One more note:

Don't engage the autopilot above 350kts or you'll just get a lot of longitudinal oscillation. Any speed below 350kts is cool.....

Now if only I could get her to behave on taxi and takeoff! What am I doing wrong?!
For those who have Kelticheart's fx for the Fox Four Sabre the following might be useful:
In AIRCRAFT.cfg:
[LIGHTS]
panel=0.0, -0.5, -1.8, fx_exh_Fox4_Sabre_KH

Add to PANEL.cfg: under window 00

gauge72=DAP_ExhaustFX!ExhaustFX, 0,0,10,10,80

I'm not sure where I picked up Kelti's glowing effect (it doesn't appear to be in his dowloads section) but it has come in handy on several occasions. Appart from a little "bleed" it fits here as well.

bearcat241
November 27th, 2008, 23:07
:icon_lol: Its only a hot rod in the air Mike...you have to take it slow with the ground taxi. Easy turns from tarmac to runway, 5-7 mph. The Sabre has a narrow wheel base, not much wider than a Spitfire and a lot more suspension travel in the struts. So if you take the corners too fast it will tip over on a front quarter. Set your park brakes, lower full flaps, power up to 80% RPM and release your brakes...yep, that simple.
