There are a couple of different New Zeland landclass texture files available for free. One's at flightsim.com and the other was posted as a link at Simflight. They both have 4 different files for download and appear to be very similar. I was wondering if anyone knows whether they're both the same thing?

Here's the first as linked from Simflight;

Here's a link to the download for the other at Flightsim.com (part 1 only linked in this post);

Yes. The .pdf manual in each shows World Landclass Textures as the authors, same as the web site.

EDIT: Not sure I understand the need for the autogen textures download and install, as they are the exact same textures as the default FSX. :ques:
EDIT EDIT: Yes the file sizes are the same. ( I could hear someone mulling that over...) :icon_lol:

Godzone definitely looks the best, FTX quality, but the Real NZ is free.
I have to do free these days. *sigh* :kilroy:

Well, I'm getting out of memory errors using this scenery. Too bad, as it looks really nice for the couple of minutes it actually works.
Strange thing as I can run Aerosoft's F-16 on FTX PNW Blue without any problems (except the expected fps hit).

Edit; Now I think I have a problem with the default NZ scenery. I removed this add-on scenery and I'm still getting the error. Very strange??? Have to dig a bit deeper on this one. Over the course of time I've tried a few different NZ area sceneries. Might have some weird left over files lying around somewhere causing a problem.

I encourage freeware and the effort that is involved, but I hope this posting is not correct for the developers who put out this add on;

http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=35997&title=real-nz

I have the Flight1 product installed, but downloading the RealNZ stuff is near impossible without paying for some type of VIP membership garbage, so I can't tell if the claims are correct or not. But I really do hope for RealNZ that the claim is incorrect.

They have a name issue too. Realnz is a NZ based payware flightsim scenery add on company and have no connections to these freeware textures whom also call themselves RealNZ.

The "real" RealNZ are selling payware Vector Landclass textures which I linked above.

FlightSim.com is a slow download as well, but at least you can do 2 files at a time.
Probably should reserve comment, but I am wondering if it uses some default textures, and if you have GEX installed, it's swapping those in instead?

All in all it looks very nice, but I need a better mesh.
Anyone know of a good freeware one for New Zealand?

EDIT: Finally located a mesh.

Two files at 30kb/sec. is still sllooowwww! I have two out of the four downloaded and they are single installers, which allowed some of the files to come out. The dates on the files are earlier than my install of GEX, so it would be difficult to compare. I'll leave that for Flight1 to worry about.

And I'm the type where nothing gets installed w/o my checking it first or having a full backup of the files it might overwrite. Been burned too many times in the past and would rather do without than get burned again.

Bottomline: If it's a valid project, then congrats to the developers for all their hard work.

According to the read me, you have to have all four packs installed as they won't work singularly. I also am like you in that I don't usually install directly into FS. I usually install, where possible, into a separate folder than install the files manually so I can control how the files are installed and what gets backed up.

Downloading Part 4 right now.

Double WOW...who on earth are these people??
It must've been a huge amount of work to do.
And, they must've known it would bounce eventually.

C'mon down, you're our Grand Prize winners for today!

Don't know any of the names from hanging around the dev sites?

We did not simply make a arbitrary call about this... we matched 95% of the textures and all the autogen files for those textures were GEX as well. 20% of the GEX tiles had been edited to make minor changes, the rest were direct copies and all of it was confirmed. My attorney had the website removed via faxed evidence to the web host and also mega upload and we are watching for them to be reposted under new names.

It was a blatant duplication of GEX NA and EU tiles.. if a user has GEX NA and EU installed and uses that LC file, the same textures will appear. I cant say where the LC came from, but based on the texture duplication I would consider it was also clipped from someone else and renamed.

I am sincerely sorry about the fact that a lot of you were expecting to see NZ covered with freeware with this. Its a shame it was a fraud.. the fact of the matter is GEX NA + EU and the up and coming Africa and Middle East will cover a lot of NZ and we will get to that area for the remaining tiles that are not made, however NZ needs a LANDCLASS more than it does textures because if the LC is made right it will call the correct textures for the area.

We have a massive patch coming for Europe which is going to make a lot of changes we could not get into the original release and upgrade the entire Europe continent (north and south) which we are extending full Xclass LC support in that patch, and, Africa/Middle East will actually update North America too, all of this will effect NZ as well but its the landclass that is really missing for a proper NZ. There are other payware options for NZ too such as the REAL Real NZ products, good products from good people. GEX is a generic texture replacement. FSX does not assign specific textures for every area, if it did our job at GEX would be far easier since we could focus on an exact location and not have to deal with trying to make what works in Europe or North America, work everywhere else at the same time.
