Is there a way to get more snow on the ground in ETO during the winter months? With my current settings I am just getting some small patches.

With all due respect... You get about one week of snow during the winter in most of the non-mountainous areas of Britain, France and Belgium. Even Germany's not usually covered in thick drifts, either. MS got it wrong...

Thanks for the info, I understand. The photos of the Ardennes in the winter of 44-45 look pretty white, but I assume that is because of the higher altitudes in that area.

But actually I was thinking more along the lines of Eastern Front scenarios. I used to have a scenery editor in my old CFS version (Winding Man?) that allowed a selection of snow cover and I thought that maybe something like that had been incorporated into ETO that I have not discovered.

There is also the fact that the winter of '44 -'45 was one of the worst for decades. But generally Nigel is right about the snow coverage. But what, M$ got something wrong..no!:icon_lol:

The early & late war years had the worst snow falls for 50 years whilst 1946 was the worst winter for over a hundred.

1939-40Jan -1.4SnowyDJFMa17th Jan., 1ft at Eastbourne. 27-28th Jan., blizzard of decade in Scotland, England, except south west, Derbys., Cheshire, Lancs. 2ft. Sheffield 4ft accumulated. 28-30th Jan., Eastbourne, Kent, 10in., and east Sussex. Exmoor 7-8ft drifts.

1940-41Jan 0.5SnowyDJFMaThird week Jan., 18-20th Feb., blizzard north east England and south east Scotland, worst since Mar. 1888? West Midlands, Wirrall, north west England 12-15in. Consett 4ft. 6-16ft drifts, County Down. 26-27th Mar., northern Scotland. worst since 1879? Tain 3ft., Oban 9in.

1941-42Jan 0.9SnowyJFMaMainly in east, 19-20th Jan., Scotland and northern England, 1-2ft, Midlands and south east, 6in. Early-Feb., North

1942-43Jan 4.9LittleDJMyLate Dec.-early Jan., east Scotland. 8th May, Scotland, northern England, Northern Ireland, Douglas I.O.M. 6in.1943-44Dec 3.5LittleF25-29th Feb., Scotland, north east England, north Midlands, Mansfield, Nottingham, 1ft.

1944-45Jan 0.4SnowyNDJ8-12th Dec., west Scotland. First half Jan., Bellingham 2ft. 22-25th Jan., south Wales and south west England, 1-2ft. Cardiff 30in. 29-30th Jan., northern England and southern Scotland.

All personel at bomber stations in northern England frequently had to sweep runways, peritracks and a/c of snow before ops during the depth of winter.

Certainly the last 40 years have seen a 'warming' (lets not get into a argument whether natural or man made) to a point when last years cold snap almost brought the nation to a standstill due to our unpreparedness.

I must agree, The years I spent in europe, there wasn't alot of snow, except in the alps, bavaria, the higher elevations ETC..
I was surprised it did get Very cold at times in Germany, during the winters..
But not alot of snow..I had to travel to find deep snow during the winters, I learned to
ski, and loved heading to the Mountains, whenever I could ..

And England, had No snow when I was there during jan 76' it was rather nice in London,
compaired to german weather..

Spent new years eve in Paris, Dec 31, 75' then to london, the real one
not the one in Ohio or Kentucky..:jump:..
But no snow to speak of..

There is also good snow cover in northern MAW. The non-mountainous area of Yugoslavia/Bulgaria/Romania may be able to double for the Ukrainian/Russian steppes, although there are no major rivers and I'm not sure about the trees.

Not to worry there is plenty of snow in MAW..
I just finished setting up several large tank battles in it for the
Eastern front stuff..Nothing like sliding around in a t-34..LOL...
Have a look..

Hi

Where did you find those winter textures and how do you install them into ETO?

Cheers
