View Full Version : Icebergs be GONE

A while back I did a post about land locked icebergs showing up around the world. Well, I was reading the thread by Bobr2 about the FS9 config settings. Cazzie posted a link to an interesting article on tweaking FS9....including the autogen. After reading it, I went into the default.xlm file in the AUTOGEN folder and deleted each and every reference to icebergs. No more icebergs! Then I went back in and deleted all the references to the fast food joints....if I can't go through the drive thru window and get a burger, fry and shake fast food joints don't need to be a part of my sim world.

This tweaking did not remove anything from the autogen other than the icebergs, which I have only seen on land in France, Germany, Italy, Brazil and the like, and fast food joints. The houses, barns, bridges, chickens and all that jazz is still there to enjoy looking at.

I will attach a copy of my modified file in case anyone wants to use it. Just go into your AUTOGEN folder and rename the original file default.bak and place the modified one in that folder.

Obio do you just delete just the word icebergs or the whole line with icebergs in it? Thanks

I am including a section from a stock default.xlm file to show what part to delete to remove the icebergs. Delete the bold text...from <CLASS> just before the first iceberg line to <CLASS> just after the last iceberg line. There are several sections dealing with icebergs in the default.xlm document, so you will have to hunt them all down.

OBIO forgive me for bugging you again ,but after rereading the last line of your post about renameing the default Bak. and placeing it into the autogen folder has me confused. Do you delete the whole Autogen file and replace it with the modified one or just place it into the default autogen file and rename it?
Or can you just delete the iceberg enteries and save the autogen file? I don't understand the renaming part.
I promise after this even if I don't understand I won't bug you anymore,I haven't seen any icebergs yet but I haven't flown where you have flown, maybe I'll just live with them or just give up flight simming which I've been thinking of anyway because of stuff like this. Thanks for your time an patience

If you were going to drop the modified file I attached in a zip, then go into the AUTOGEN folder and rename the stock default.xlm file to default.bak. Then take the modified file from the zip file and drop it into the AUTOGEN folder.

If you are going to modify the stock default.xlm file, then make a copy of it and keep it in a safe place in case you want to go back to the original file at a later date. What I do is select the file, right click, copy, then right click, paste...it will paste a copy of the file right into the same folder but it will be called Copy of Default.xlm.

Excellent find Obio. Never thought to look here. Not with icebergs, but in getting rid of light and power poles in GW3. Will try this and see what happens.

Thanks for taking the time to spell things out,I think since I want to keep the fast food joints I'd try modifying the oridginal and making a copy, maybe keeping it on disk.as well.
